(#7)

-[Tonari No Totoro] My Neighbor Totoro (1988)

-Pure wholesome magic are only some of the words which describes our anime film pick for #7. Once again "Hayao Miyazaki" succeeds in producing a fantastic film containing such originality in it's storyline, it's very hard to imagine this timeless classic being any other way. One of Miyazaki's most acclaimed features is a wondrous tale full of adventure, mystical creatures and unforgettable characters. Indeed, "Tonari No Totoro" (My Neighbor Totoro) is a film to be recognized by the master animator.

-This movie should definately be considered an ideal family film, from the start it's something extremely special indeed. Coming right from the mind of a film maker who's own limit is the human imagination, something which never ceases to delight, entertain and engross anime fans everywhere. Everything of the Studio Ghibli qualities are present in the film. Miyazaki's stunning and imaginative characters and scenery, it's wonderful animation and vibrant colors; as well as an engaging and entertaining story which leaves one both laughing and crying and perhaps mesmerized. Of course, this is how I feel when I watch all his films, but there is something which makes My Neighbor Totoro one of his greatest movies.

-Miyazaki has this wonderful talent, that he has the ability in his direction to appeal to a wide range of audiences. My Neighbor Totoro is both incredibly wholesome and fun, yet I have not seen one film of his which does not manage to enlighten the minds of older viewers as well as younger audiences. It is a highly engaging and appealing movie which I have never grown tired of. At the same time, I feel the film contains a rather profound message about friendship, growing up and the child imagination; but the most amazing thing is that it succeeds at doing so without even trying to begin with. This is what I feel makes the film so great, and such a fantastic animated film.

-If it isn't one already, it will no doubt become a beloved classic of both anime and the animation medium in general. I highly regard this as both a classic movie and a masterpiece of Miyazaki himself. "My Neighbor Totoro" is truly deserving of a position in the top ten greatest animes ever made.
