-Arguably no anime captures the true visual and conceptual style of fantasy "RPG's", than that of "Record Of Lodoss War. While being the first mega-popular OAV of the 90s in Japan, and one of the most acclaimed anime sagas of all time; Record Of Lodoss War is based upon the popular comic books, and video game of the same name in Japan. -This visually stunning 13-episode series is comprised of some of the greatest characters ever created for an anime OAV. Smashing the artistic and visual boundaries of conceptual fantasy art, and European style influences. Record Of Lodoss War is a stunning tale of a young man's journey in conquering a great evil. Durring this legendary journey he encounters five other warriors, whom together will help him in his quest. Record Of Lodoss War greatly captures the visual style of Japanese animation, while at the same time offering the D&D feel to the production. The result is a visual masterpiece full of in-depth characters and smashing art. It starts off mainly as a story of redemption of a young man, whom later finds himself in the struggle of a land in turmoil. He is joined by a dwarf, a beautiful elf, a sorceror, a thief as well as a cleric. But the story only begins from there. -The art for the series relys heavily on dramatic camera-angles and set-ups, beautiful backgrounds and scenery; as well as some highly influential and stunning character designs by Yutaka Izubuchi. Enigmatic score enlightens this epic visual romp of fantastic character development and a gripping storyline. Not only is "Record Of Lodoss War" production-wise, high-quality in it's own right; but the series contains some rather special aspects which distinguish it from other animes. Not only is the series one of the best visual presentations of a fantasy world in animation, but is also one of the best series to technically apply means of "stock animation", unique camera techniques as well as an interesting usage of cel-coloring. The directors have not only succeed in producing an anime using limited production means, but still manage to hold a good storyline foundation on top of a well-executed technical set-up. The result is truly one of the most awesome animes out there. -In fact, the storyline for 'Lodoss' is so involved, and the characters so highly appealing, that I find myself witnessing new aspects every single viewing. The characters are some of the most excellent ever created, and they truly capture the essence of fantasy style RPGs. The series is a definitive example of what anime is, and should be; and has been a fine example for titles ever since it's initial release. A truly enchanting anime classic which should not be missed by anyone.
