Story:
After Baek left the Iron Fist tournament 2, he went back to his Tae Kwon Do dojo in Korea. Soon afterwards, a young child was left in his care-a young orphan, whom he nicknamed 'Hwoarang'- 'Flowering Manhood'.
As Hwoarang got older, he displayed a heightened ability in the art of Tae Kwon Do- creating his own way of fighting, different from his master, Baek's style. But Hwoarang was a brash and streetwise kid, who soon made his own street gang- much to baek's ire. His gang worked by suckering people into fights for money. The person would fight other members of the gang and would be allowed to win, then as the stakes got to their highest, Hwoarang would come in and beat the person, regaining the gang's money, and the person's own well-earned cash. Hwoarang's record was always a win- no losses or draws, until they came across some Mishima Zaibatsu employees, and Jin Kazama.
Hwoarang challenged Jin to a fight- of which Jin complied. The two fought until both couldn't fight on and a draw was called, despite Hwoarang;s anger at the verdict. Soon afterwards, he told his master Baek about the fight and pushed himself more into his training. But then, one night, the dojo was in flames and Baek was badly burnt and unconscious outside the flames. He died not too long afterwards. Hwoarang, upset and angry, vowed to get revenge against the thing that destroyed the dojo and killed Baek, and to defeat Jin Kazama as a personal closure after their street fight. When he heard about the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, and heard that Jin would also be entering, he readily participated- his chance had come.
After the tournament, coming home empty-handed, and not obtaining his goals, he was drafted into the Korean Army and sent to work in the Special Operations Division. Though he completed missions easily, his rebellious nature gave his senior officers amounts of grief.
After a while, Hwoarang began to feel a strange emptyness within him- he longed for the days when he hustled people into fights, along with his street fight against Jin Kazama. When he heard about the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, Hwoarang seized the chance and went AWOL from the army- nothing would stand in his way from the tournament, nor its prize. Not Jin, not Heihachi, not anyone!.
