Big O Synopsis
Well for those who don't know already Big O has come to the cartoon
network and has replaced Outlaw Star. At first I thought that Big O
was going to be a real bad rip off of the late Giagantor series but
I was wrong. Big O may look at first like a real bad series but looks
can be deceiving and in this case it is. Big O is not a rip off of any
big robot show in fact I think it sets a new standard for how they should
be. Big O delivers a dramatic plot with good action and suspense in
every episode and should become a major hit on the cartoon network if
it is not already one.
So let me begin my review by giving you the basic plot
up until now. About 40 years before the present time Paradime city had
an incident happen in which all peoples memories have been erased. The
rich now live in these dome type things will the poor live outside of
these structures. Roger Smith is referred to as a negotiator in this
show his job is basically like the real life job of a negotiator. For
those who don't know what a negotiator is well it's a person who handles
hostage situation or any other type of hostile situation that police
can't handle on there own.
Basically what happens in the first episode is Roger goes out on another
one of his negotiating missions and encounters a guy named Beck. The
guy is total slime and roger meets Dorothy who is an android based on
the features of a real person. Eventually Roger and Beck tangle in mechs
that are referred to as the Mega Dueces. Rogers Mega Duce is called
Big O. Even though the design looks pretty shoddy to mechs of the standard
of Gundams this mech can fight as good as them. So Roger beats beck
who is sent to jail. As a major plot twist Dorothy hires Roger as sort
of a body guard. Roger agrees to be Dorothy's "body guard"
and thus we have the two main characters.
From here on in the episodes are based on rogers negotiation jobs. So
a couple of episodes come along and new characters are introduce who
only appear in that episode. This is the basic format for the show until
about the last half when Zebac is introduced and he finds another Mega
Duece a red one and engages Roger in Batlle from here in the series
has about one episode left in which the episode takes everything you
know and turns it into a very complex plot in the end of the show Roger
is about to do battle against three Mega Dueces with Dorothy at his
side and then when you think you are going to see a great fight the
credits role and we all end up screaming what the hell happens. Unfortunately
yes it is the end of the show with nothing at all resolved and us wondering
to ourselves what happened.
Overall I give Big O and 8 out of a possible ten because most of the
episodes were good and kept me entertain. The downfall of the show is
that it is indeed very short and to date one of the shortest anime series
I have ever seen. Another issue is that after watching the whole series
you feel like you have wasted time on this show since you know less
about the story then you did when you saw the first episode which is
not a good thing anime fans like to have happen to them. Only Neon Genesis
Evangelion can pull this off and Big O is far from that in many asspects.
Overall I think many will like this show for its action and drama but
as for me it started out a great show with a lot of potential but ended
up as another OVA that has yet to be finished
