v4.0 velvet
v 4.0 of in the hands of the world is entitled "velvet" after the music video that all the images on this page are made from. "velvet" was a single released by the band a-ha earlier this year.
most of you probably haven't heard of a-ha. this is for two reasons (1) they are a norwegian band, so unless you live in europe, it is a rare occurence to hear their songs on the radio (2) the height of their career was in the late 1980's.
now, because they were an 80's band does not automatically mean they 'suck'. they do have good, thoughtful music. they broke up after the lilihammer games and officially got back together in late 1999. since then they have released one album entitled minor earth|major sky which has only been released to 1/2 of north america.
but back to "velvet" now. the song didn't take to me at first because it was very slow and sentimental and i don't like that much in music. eventually, i warmed up to it after i had seen the music video to it.
which is very differnt from the song.
the video was directed by the same man who directed "one night at mccool's" (the song is subsequently the theme of the movie) the video is dark and aethetically pleasing. the video has developed some slight controversy in europe (which isn't without reason) but it is far too beautiful a peice of work for that to change my opinion of it.
it's interesting though- after you see the video, the song seems so much more creepy.
(and hey, let's face it- i'm a weirdo :p)
