Animazement 2005

Folks, this may have the been the best one yet. Lots of great panels, fabulous guests, and great fun was had by many (if not all). I apologize in advance for the ones that came out blurry (stupid lens), but enjoy our pictures anyway. Pic comments are coming later when work is not so much.

Con highs:

  • Anime Hell- Three words: "Der Fuhrer's Face." Truely animated hell indeed.
  • Aya Hisakawa and Chika Sakamoto- Both very wonderful and gracious guests, who answered our questions (probably ones they've heard millions of times before) with great enthusiasim and politeness. As a bonus, Chika Sakamoto made us hit ourselves over the head with imaginary chopsticks and sing in Japanese at the top of our lungs. Can't say that was a boring panel... ^_^
  • Cosplay- I'm always amazed by the diversity of cosplay and cosplayers I see at Animazement. New anime and old, young and old, black and white...it's just so much fun to see what new and amazing everyone can come up with.
  • Old faces, new faces- To all you guys from last year, nice to see you again and I hope to catch you next year. To you new folks, it was nice to meet you, and perhaps we will meet again.
  • The new room organization - I love that the video games are now in the more spacious bar. I love that the Art Room and Video Room 1 traded places. Keep them there, please?
  • The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Panel- Scoff if you will, anime purists, but a viewing of Godzilla vs. Megalon was just what this old soul needed at 11 pm on Saturday evening, not some techno-poppy dance. Bravo to the gentleman who put it on, and may I suggest Gamera vs. Guiron for next year? Also, the Bots were amazing and sadly the closest thing to a celebrity encounter I've ever had.
  • The Comfort Suites - Due to my own stupidity, I didn't make reservations for the Sheraton in time. However, if you are forced to stay elsewhere, I can fully recommend this wonderful place; great rooms, wonderful (understanding) staff, contenental breakfast, and plenty of regular folks to give you strange looks.
  • The Sign Ban- To the organizers: Thank you for not allowing signs this year. It made things more fun and much less uncomfortable for those of us who don't like attention whores.
  • Playing 1000 Blank White Cards at 2 am in the morning in the lobby- This is always fun. Even better when people are forced to make a One Ring out of paper and flush it down the toliet...er, drop it in Mt. Doom. ^_^

Con lows:

  • Video Contest- Oh look...another Naruto video. To be honest, things were a little more diverse this year, but there were still too many angsty rock videos. Will someone please make a video with some rhythm?
  • Eva: The Musical starting late- Dammit, I missed it due to a dinner date. And I really wanted to see it, too.
  • No Jaek - Due to circumstances, no trauma for Jaek this year. He doesn't know what he missed.
