Daisuke

Icy Fire...

For those of you who don't get it (in other words, everyone out there, because it doesn't make any sense), it subtext up there is refering to his Digimentals: Taichi's and Yamato's. Taichi's (or, actually, Agumon's) element is Fire, and Yamato's is Ice. Those of you who have read my Taito poem Of Fire and Ice should see what I was trying to say there -- those two Digimentals are a very strange combination.

Some might say that that's why Daisuke is so horrible, perhaps. A bad combination for a bad person. But, looking at it from the other side, maybe that's why he's so interesting...

If I'd written this rant before, here's what I would have said:

• Daisuke... ah, a spawn of hell, and not even the good kind of spawn of hell (like me). He leeches off of the DigiDestined, getting himself fame and even a few fans. He, like Taichi before him, gets the DigiDestined into danger that they would have easily avoided otherwise -- and, unlike Taichi, he isn't skilled enough to get them out, or compassionate enough to even care that he was the one that endangered them in the first place.
• He's conceited. He thinks that Hikari is his girl, regardless of how she feels about the matter. He thinks he's a wonderful soccer and basketball player. He thinks that Ken would repent his guilt over his evilness just to be friends with him. The list goes on and on...
• He's idiotic and forgetful. Even Sora can come up with a quick excuse when she's in a tight situation. His best response is "I haven't a clue what you're talking about." But then, isn't that standard fare for Daisuke in life, too?

But now... after seeing "The Last Temptation of the DigiDestined" (AKA Ep 49), my opinion has changed. And this is where the Daisuke-haters should start chanting "Must not flame" to themselves... Mallet-whacks are acceptable, though. (Good thing I finally convinced imoto-san not to kill me over this!)

Daisuke saved all the kids... he was actually useful! And he was sincere, he was brilliant, he was a fiery orator, and, really, he was very impressive. Yeah, okay, his lifelong dream is to run Noodle, Noodle, Get Your Noodle, but he's still cool.

He gave all of the Third DigiDestined (the kids chosen by Oikawa are the first Third DigiDestined -- the group also includes the rest of the world that got their Digimon after the battle with MaloMyotismon) the hope to carry on, he gave them back their dreams, and he was modest about it. After all, if no-one can destroy your dreams other than yourself, no-one can give them back other than you.

He showed real, true sadness when Oikawa died... Wow. The guy has emotions other than lust, embarressment, and disappointment! Good for him!

He is so darn cute! Sorry, but he is. The hair, the clothes... come on, the guy's hot! Not like Yama, Taichi, or even Jyou, but still... he's better than Take-kun, that's for sure.

His kid is way awesome! The name "Dakedo" (meaning "however"), was originally supposed to mean, "Okay, Daisuke's a real jerk, but he's got a cool kid!" Now... I just don't know what it means. It's still a nice name, though, isn't it? Even if it isn't truly a name... but that's nit-picking, if you ask me.

So, and I know I'll displease many people with this, I like Daisuke. He's way cool, in my opinion. Koushiro's still my favorite character, but Daisuke is above Hikari, Takeru, Miyako, Mimi... quite a few, really.
