Armitage III

Episode 1: Electro Blood

High above the surface of Mars, a space shuttle prepares to land. On board is Inspector Ross Sylibus from Earth. Also on board are the famous country and western singing star Kelly McCanon and her manager. As the shuttle propares for final approach, the cockpit buzzes to life. Almost all of the flight crew are robots. A bored human operator looks on as the plane lands automatically. As the shuttle docks with the space port, a gangway extends from the plane to the port. A high speed train takes the passengers and cargo to the terminal. In the cargo bay, the door opens and a blonde-haired man emerges holding a guitar. He smashes a nearby console causing an emergency alarm to sound. An explosion caues the train to speed out of control Inspector Ross has a very rough welcome to Mars.

In the spaceport, the passengers disembark. Inspector Sylibus walks down the walkway. As he looks around, the spaceport is filled with Kelly McCanon fans. The blonde haired man, accompanied by a group of thugs, roughly bumps Ross as he walks by wheeling a large suitcase. "Freeze! Get your hands up." Ross is caught surprised and raises his hands. Behind him, Armitage is yelling for the blonde haired man to stop. The blonde man sends the thugs to take care of Armitage. A gun fight ensues. One of the thugs gets a cullet in the head, and Ross is frozen with confusion. The shot thug gets up and grabs Armitage by the leg. The thug is a robot, Ross manages to rescue Armitage with a well-placed fist. Ross notices that the suitcase is dripping a trail of blood. Armitage fires again and another thug goes down. With a last well-placed shot, she manages to shoot the handle of the suitcase, causing its contents to spill onto the floor...the corpse of Kelly McCanon! An angry mob of fans runs towards the blonde man with thoughts of revenge. The blonde man laughs maniacally as he opens up on the mob with an automatic pistol. Dodging a hail of bullets andd falling glass, Armitage chases the blonde man. She manages to throw a pair of handcuffs to the man's wrist. The blonde man speeds off in a waiting car.

Ross returns to the corpse of McCanon. Her fans are distraught. Ross makes a shocking discovery. "She's just a damn robot!" exclaims Ross as he inspects the corpse. Hearing his words, Armitage coldly walks away and lets the airport police handle this affair.

Ross and Armitage arrive at police headquarters. Ross exits the car and is immediately mobbed by news media. The rumor tht Kelly McCanon was a robot has already made its way to the media. Ross gives the pesky news reporter a simple "No comment."

Inside police headquarters, Inspector Sylibus attends a meeting, trying to make some sense of the murder. A police technician reports that Kelly McCanon was neither human or a cyborg, but a robot with a very sophisticated artificial intelligence, probably a prototype model made outside of normal robot regulations. The technician suspects that there are more of these prototypes wandering around unnoticed. Inspector Sylibus gives his report, starting that he could not tell the difference between the robot McCanon and any other human being.

Later, Ross and Armitage check out what will be Ross' apartment during his stay on Mars. They find a rather stodgy room with a view of the city. They both watch a tape sent to the news media by McCanon's murderer. Inspector Sylibus exclaims, "That's the guy!" when the tape shows the blonde man from the airport. The video shows the brutal murder of Kelly McCanon. All of Mars watches in horror. Afterwards, the TV reporter interviews Julia Blanchen, a leading advocate for the Neo-Humanist-Cause, a group dedicated to removing robots from all levels of industry and society.

Later that night, Inspector Sylibus has a nightmare about losing his former partner to a robot attack. he wakes up in a cold sweat. He decides to take a light jog during the evening. He runs to a high overlook and sees a replica of the Statue of Liberty. His jo ends up at police headquarters. A lazy policeman jokingly gives Ross some advice, "Dont kill your partner this time."

Inspector Sylibus goes to the motor pool and inspects his new mode of transportation, a future version of a Ferrari Roadster. One of the other officers also admires the car and is amazed that although the car is fully automatic and is capable of driving itself, Inspector Sylibus chooses to drive the car by himself. Ross speeds off down the road.

Inspector Sylibus begins his investigation by going to one of the two robot manufacturing facilities on Mars. He passes by a rather large mob of people protesting that robots should get our and give back Ross talks to a company representative dryly states, "That is not the type of robot that Hughgite manufactures."

His next stop is the Conception Robot company, which is complete with protesters acraming about their lost jobs. Inside, Ross discovers that Armitage is already there and is busy arguing with one of Conception's staff. Armitage demands that she see a Doctor Asakura, but the robot receptionist states that the Doctor does not remember a person named Armitage. Angry, Armitage grabs the robot and threatens to beat it up. Ross breaks up their "discussion" by grabbing Armitage and carrying her off over his shoulder. Outside, Ross suggests that thwy go to immigration to check up, but Armitage both reconcile themselves to work together. "If you want a partner, stop flying solo."

At the local nightspot, Armitage and Ross wander about, enjoying the sights. Later, at a observation area, Ross watches the city and night. Armitage runs up with her idea of dinner, ice cream. Ross tells Armitage about how things are going to get worse that people cant trust robots. Armitage sadly says that she thinks Ross and the murderer are the same because they both hate robots. Ross says that he is sick of all the robots, cyborg and machines that try to copy humans. Upon hearing that comment, Armitage coldly walks away.

Another day, Armitage and Ross, question McCanon's former manager. They find him drunk in a local bar. The manager turns to Armitage and begs for support, pleading to Armitage that no robot could be like McCanon. Armitage knocks him away and coldly tells him that McCanon is dead and that he should deal with it. Outside, Ross scolds Armitage for her unprofessional conduct of beating up the manager. Armitage reports that the manager was an ass because he couldnt believe that McCanon coul be a robot. Ross gets a call from headquarters with a voice mail message. The message is from a distraught women who is looking for Armitage. "I told you, an officer named Armitage! Please you got to help me, I'm a Third!" The lady on the phone is Jessica Manning. Jessica had kept the list of all the Thirds that came from Pluto. She also says that the blonde guy is after her. Ross races off towards Jessica Manning's house. One by one, the Thirds are murdered by the blond haired guy. He even breaks into the TV broadcast system. "I am Renee D'anclaude." He states that it's his duty to destroy all the Thirds. "First contestant is Jessica Manning."

Inspector Sylibus arrives at Mannin's trashed house. Inside, he finds Jessica's assistant, Jenny, sobbing on the floor. She is distraught and begs Ross to same Jessica. At another mob protest, the mob is burning the corpse of many robots including the corpse of Jessica. As she burns, she transmits the list of Thirds to Armitage. Jessica's last message is "So long Jenny" transmitted to the terminal at the Manning House.

Later, D'anclaude finds Ross and leads him on a wild goosechase, which ends at a cathedral. Inside the decrepit and deserted cathedral, Ross looks for D'anclaude. D'anclaude gets the jump on him and sickly explains to him how he gets turned on when he kills a robot. "I'm just exterminating vermin, I'm performing a service," D'anclaude excalims. The chase leads up to the top of the cathedral's steeple. D'anclaude gets the upper hand, but suddenly the bells of the cathedral start to ring. With a red blur, Armitage arrives. Armitage uses a new found power to cause a nearby crane to move by her control. "The truth is Renee, I'm a Third!" Armitage yells to an unbelieving Ross and D'anclaude. D'anclaude exclaims "How can you be a Third, your name wasnt even on my list?!" Using the crane as a bridge, she runs towards D'anclaude. D'anclaude opens fire with an automatic weapon but Armitage doesnt go down. Armitage leaps and knees D'anclaude in the head. She electocutes D'anclaude and he collapses in a lump. Armitage is badly hurt. She shakes D'anclaude's limp body and wonders, "If humans dont want me, why did they make me!?" Armitage raises her fist and prepares to finish him off for good, but she is stopped by Ross who says, "Robots arent the enemy of humans, I learned this...from my partner." Armitage breaks down in tears as Ross approaches her. Distraught, she jumps over the edge of the steeple into the river below. Ross leaps in after her and manages to save her. "Good-bye, Ross," are Armitage last words as she turns away.

Life goes on and people have forgotten about the recent murder of Kelly McCanon and one of her posters lies on the street, trampledd by the pedestrians
