News: May 30, 2001: DVD Delays
Dragonball Z DVD Delays :
FUNimation has delayed the Dragonball Z: World Tournament and DBZ: Frieza- Transformation DVDs from their original release date of June 12 until June 26th. No reason has been given for the delay.
Oh well I guess we will have to wait some more for these. It's not like we weren't waiting before. :^)
News: May 11, 2001: New DVDs and Episodes
DVDs Setbacks:
The Garlic Jr. DVD's that were scheduled to come out in June and July have been moved. We will let you know the rescheduled release dates as soon as they are available. Z Warriors Prepare has also been rescheduled. We are adding the Episodes 106-108 from the Trunks Prelude to Terror video to the Z Warriors Prepare DVD so it will contain 5 episodes (106-110). Continue to check here for updates on the VHS and DVD release schedule.
Just a little bit More:
This just in: World Tournament - The Draw and World Tournament - Blackout, which are scheduled for VHS release on July 17, are anticipated to be the first videos to have simultaneous release of VHS and DVD. That means you will be able to get these videos on DVD July 17. This is the anticipated schedule, which means that it is not final and there could be a change. This is very exciting news. In addition, it is anticipated that every release after these will be simultaneous with VHS and DVD, providing that any new video release has not aired on Cartoon Network. Be sure to regularly check the FAQ's for updates on the VHS and DVD release schedules.

This doesn't particulary affect me because I'm buying all the Dragonball Z DVDs Next Year but for those of you that buy it when they come out this will help build that collection a little bit more.

News: May 7, 2001: New Episodes, Movies and Eric Left

Funimation has confirmed that the first new home video release of Dragonball will be the uncut hour long tape "Tournament - Roshi's Request," to be released on June 5th. Based on the title it can be assumed that the original Dragonball series will be picking up where the original 13 American release episodes ended.
New movie is coming soon:
Funimation has also confirmed that Dragonball Z movie 4, "Lord Slug," will be released on edited and uncut VHS on August 8th.

On Monday, 5/7/2001 Eric Phan of Planet Namek Says Goodbye:

I'd like to bid a fond farewell to Planet Namek and its visitors. I joined
the site because of its reliable server and the work ethic of its staff - MrE, Kaio, and SkullMac, who've I've very much enjoyed working with. It's been almost four years since I opened up The Weekly Dragon Ball Chapters (which later became Daily) and began fanscanning. With the series fanscanned, and me being in college, I haven't been an active presence online for almost a year. Also, while I still retain some fondness for DB, my fire for it has subsided. Rather than remain an inactive staff member, I'd instead like to say goodbye. Thanks to everyone who's ever helped me out - there's so many of you!

For those of you that are curious about my current interest, check out my small and humble site at http://usa.internations.net/health/hglog/ As for anime and manga, I'm *very* impressed by the manga series Lone Wolf & Cub which is being released by Dark Horse every month. If you like manga, check it out! I personally enjoy it more than DB - it's that good!
On a personal note, I thought Eric was a great contributor to planetnamek. I know how hard it is to do a web site and school at the same time. Good luck Eric!
News: May 3, 2001: New Episodes and Suck Ups For Everyone

Fukunaga also announced that new episodes of Dragon Ball Z will begin airing on the Cartoon Network beginning September 3rd.
More videos for sale:

Here are the numbers for the month of April for Cartoon Network:

Cartoon Network finished the month of April and tied for second place (with USA) in prime time ratings (1.7) and third place in total day ratings (1.1) among all ad-supported cable networks, continuing the network's remarkable first-quarter ratings and delivery growth pattern. Tweens 9-14, kids 6-11 and kids 2-11 all set April prime time rating and delivery records, while households set a prime delivery record for the month. In total day, tweens 9-14 and kids 6-11 set April total day ratings and delivery records, while households and kids 2-11 set an April total day delivery record.
The all-animation network posted mostly double-digit rating growth across all targeted demographics, while delivery gains consistently outpaced the network's powerful 16 percent distribution growth vs. last April.
