Sorority Myths

	All sorority girls are skinny, blonde and have big boobs.
	False! The proportion of Alpha Gams who look like this is equal to the proportion of such women in society. Sorority girls generally reflect the population of the entire student body.

	If you can get into a sorority without looking like everyone else, the girls will make you lose weight and change your appearance.
	False! In Alpha Gam, we believe strongly in being ourselves. The individuality and genuine nature of our women are two of the main reasons prospective members are drawn here in the first place.

	Sorority members are just paying for their friends.
	False! Dues are a part of membership to a sorority, just like any other club or activity. Payment of dues funds our events, contributes to philanthropy and scholarship, and keeps our International Headquarters running strong.

	The only thing sorority girls are interested in is looking good for the fraternity guys. If you join one, you always have to look perfect or you'll be "dragging down the chapter's reputation."
	False! We appreciate the fact that everyone has her own style, whether it's a closet full of dresses or jeans and t-shirts. Our sisterhood is based on our personalities, not hairstyles or clothes.

	Sorority girls hate other chapters and all non-Greeks. If you join a sorority, you can't talk to anyone else.
	False! Most Alpha Gams have very close friends in other chapters, or who don't belong to a sorority. We attend social events, play intramural sports with other chapters, do service projects for the community, and participate in Greek Week.

	If you join a sorority, you're expected to party and drink, even if it means your grades suffer.
	False! Alpha Gam places an extremely high importance on grades and school, encouraging every member to do her best. Grades must be above a certain GPA or privileges are revoked. And most importantly, Alpha Gams do not pressure one another to party. This is not an expectation for belonging to our chapter.

	Active members are only nice to you during recruitment. Once you join, they haze you and make you do all kinds of humiliating things.
	False! Alpha Gam is a non-hazing sorority. We believe in strengthening our members' self-confidence, not in dragging each other down. Our main goal is to make our New Members feel comfortable here. If anything, we spoil them!
