2002 - First Life Inspiration Awards

In October, 2002, twenty senior citizens ( 10 from Central Singapore District and another 10 from Northeast District ) won the Life Inspiration Award. This was the first time such an award was
given to outstanding senior citizens for their contributions to the community.

The main objectives of giving the awards are:

    To promote and encourage active participation of senior citizens
     in social service sector and community activities;

    To promote active lifestyle, active learning and interaction
    opportunity for senior citizens;

    To nurture leadership potential and talent among senior citizens
    for bigger leadership roles.

The Ceremony

The award ceremony was held at the Mandarin Hotel on 31 October 2002 at 8.00pm. Northeast
CDC mayor Zainul Abidin Rasheed and Central Singapore CDC mayor Heng Chee How were
the guests of honour. Guests invited included senior officials from the two districts and friends
and relatives of the awardees. The ceremony ended with a grand dinner.
