Dordrecht stands on the south bank of the Oude Maas at the junction of important waterways linking the south of the country to both the north and Belgium.
The word "drecht" means a crossing place and we have friends who live in Pappendrecht, Zwijndrecht and Barendrecht as well as Dordrecht itself.
The church in the background is the Grote Kirk which dates from the thirteenth century.
