 | The lower reservoir is much smaller and was built by the British over 100 years ago. In constructing it they flooded the site of the Philae temple and had to remove it stone by stone for reconstruction on a small island which still remained. It is another of the Ptolomaic temples mentioned earlier (see Edfu page) and can be visited by boat during the day, or at night when a sound and light show is held there. The Greeks who built these temples were unable to read the hieroglyphics which they copied onto the walls from other sites, and most of it is meaningless.
