The bazaar, or Souk as it should be correctly named, occupies a single street which runs parallel to the Corniche road next to the river. Aswan is Egypt's most southerly town and there is a distinct African flavour to the place, from the spices in the market to the many Nubians who live here. Although it does not have as many historical sites as Cairo or Luxor, it is a relaxing place to visit especially if you can stay at one of the swish hotels such as the Cataract where Agatha Christie wrote the novel "Death on the Nile".
