Final Fantasy 9 is more than just an epic struggle of good versus evil, it's a story that branches far beyond that boundary. When I bought it, I expected another 8, something that I could play and enjoy, but that didn't really rival 7, I soon discovered that it actually surpassed 7 in many ways. The characters seem to truely pull me in and, unlike most other Final Fantasies, I can honestly say that I liked each character. The story is what really cemented my decision, however; because it's more than just a love story, more than just good versus evil and more than a simply struggle, it just...really reaches in and grabs hold. Many will disagree, "It's too short", "It's too easy to play through", "It doesn't have the darkness and appeal as FF7". I've heard them all in the chat rooms and on message boards. What these people seem to miss is the depth of the story, they're not looking deeper than the graphics or FMVs, they're simply playing through. Easy? I don't know about you, but there are some extremely tough battles in this game. Short? It's four discs long and rivets you with stunning effects and color. No darkness or appeal? What are these people thinking? Are they playing the same game I am? Well, I'm done venting for the moment, but in my personal opinion, it's a better all around game than any Final Fantasy I've played thus far.
