Steiner is my favorite character of Final Fantasy 9's cast and it owes mostly to his humor. This is a character that we can all identify with at some point, he's hired to do a job and takes great pride in it, yet at the same time questions not only his true worth, but the meaning behind his employment. To me, Steiner is excellent comic relief. In the months leading up to the game's release, I'd been reading the profiles and the assumptions that Quina was to be the game's "Cait Sith", but in my opinion, Steiner is FF9's real comedic masterpiece. He holds true to himself, making those around him earn his trust and respect, and though he may seem gruff or even rude to other players, it's his undying faith to his own morals and goals that makes him essentially the most understandable of the cast.
