The prototype of the most popular girl on campus, Cordeila Chase is attractive, snobby, completely self-centered, fashion-concious,, head-cheerleader, the object of desire of much of the school's male population, was elected May Queen in her sophomore year, an dis oftern surrounded by a group of admirers who hang on her everyword.
Cordelia was born and raised in Sunnydale. Her mother has Epstein-Barr syndrome. Her parents gave her a car after she passed driver's ed. Her dating calendar tends to be full and varied. She used to be very fond of Daryl Epps before his tragic deat, she took Mitch fargo to the May Wueen dance, and she dated Devon, the lead singer of Dingoes Ate My Baby, though she eventually dumped him because he wasn't paying sufficient attention to her. She has also made plays for both Owen Thurman and Angel, both of whom preferred Buffy to Cordelia, to the later's disgust. She also attempted to get into a relationship with Richard Anderson, from the local college, but he was interested only in sacrificing h er to the demon he worshiped. Cordelia and Xander found themselves wildly kissing after arguing while trappe din Buffy's basement by a Tarakan assassin and, against all odds, actually managed to bild a relationship despite having despised each other for most of their lives. Their happiness was shattered when she and Oz, on a rescue mission, found Xander and Willow making out. Since then she and Xander are back to the daily insults and jeers at one another.
When her relationship with Xander went public, she became alienated from her roving band of followers, and she initially broke up with him to appease them. However, realizing that her "friends" were just sheep who hung around her because they wanted her cool to rub off on them, she decided she'd date anyone she wanted, "no matter how lame he is". Since she found out about Xander's little kiss-fest with Willow she refused to take him back and is back with her old group just as before, though she occasionally helps out the Slayerettes as she pines for the new Watcher.

Cordelia initially made friends with Buffy, thinking that, being from Los Angeles, she had to be cool, but when Buffy a) mistakenly attacked her with a stake while searching for a vampire in the back area of the Bronze and b) started hanging around with "losers" like Willow and Xander, Cordelia shunned the Slayerettes as the lamest of the lame. this changed when Cordy was threatened by an invisible attacker, and she went to Buffy for help, figuring, based on all the violence that surrounds Buffy, that she was in a gang or something. Cordy had the truth about vampires in Sunnydale shoved in her face when the Master was freed from his imprisonment, and she was there when Buffy slew him. She found herself hanging around with the Slayerettes more and more as time went on, becoming, "official" when she was awakened early in the morning to drive Xander to Buffy's house after she'd gone missing.
Cordelia once summed up her own character perfectly: "Tact is just not saying true stuff. I'll pass". Giles describes her as "Hormerically insensitive". She expresses her opinion and isn't interested if she hurts anyone's feeling. This might be the reason she found herself gravitiating to the Slayerettes, who have also been completely open in their feelings for her(usually by insulting her, but still). As Prom neared her family was hit hard by the IRS forcing her to get a job at a local dress store. She did her best to let no one know but Xander managed to put two and two together and get three thinking she just didnt get into any collage. She got into many but had the money for none. She expected him to tell the whole school, as revenge. Instead she was shocked when he paid for her prom dress enabling her to go to prom. After that they seemed to reconcile and become at least friends. She and Wesly finally shared a some what lackluster kiss during the graduation ordeal. One which felt odd to both thus ending their odd relationship. With that loose end tied up she walked off with her friends one last time before heading off to L.A.
