Christianity and the Death Penalty

The Death Penalty shows our hatred and lack of compassion towards others. It is uncivilized. We are one of the few countries in the world where there is still a Death Penalty. You may argue that there are some who deserve it, but when do two wrongs make a right? And why is it that almost all are men? Are men naturally more deserving than women or are we more hateful of men? The Death Penalty is not Justice. What has happened has happened, it cannot undo what has been done, it can only make you feel better by feeling worse. The Death Penalty is Vengence. It infests us with hatred and soils us until we become just as dirty. Vengence is not Justice. Justice is love and compassion. Justice does not kill.

What is really ugly about all these Advocates of the Death Penalty and their appetite for death, is that they are so righteous about it. Their minds become filled with all those they can think of whom they feel deserve it. And no doubt some of them do. But that does not make it right. What's more, if you call yourself a Christian, then it makes you a Hypocrit and a Hypochristian as well! For it clearly says in your most cherished book, the Bible, Thou Shalt Not Kill.It is the Sixth Commandment! Jesus said, "To him that strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also..." (Luke 6:29.8). But killing Doctors who perform Abortions and blowing up Abortion Clinics does not turn the other cheak. It is an insult to everything it means to be a compassionate human being, not to mention the Teachings of Christ. It is obvious to anyone with half a brain, with an ounce of honest self reflection, that you can either be against the Death Penalty and be a Christian or you can be for the Death Penalty and be a Hypochristian. You simple cannot serve two masters and God clearly says this in his Book, "No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." [Luke 16:13.5]

Thus if you truly wish to be a Christian, in more than name only, you simply cannot support the Death Penalty no matter how much you may feel someone may deserve it. It is simply wrong. But it is wrong for more reasons than simply because God says so. It is wrong because it denies the right every one of us has to Redemption. We do not have the right to take this from anyone, no matter what they have done. Here ends this Rant. ©Copyright 08/08/02000 Fresh Ink. All rights reserved
