Daves Colorfull Radios Page 7

Welcome to page seven of Daves Colorfull Radios. On this page I'm going to show some other high styled wood sets. The streamline look with wood sets was more expensive to do then with the plastics but some people like the look of wood instead of plastic.

1938 General Electric FE 63

General Electric in 1938 came out with some nice looking radios in thier line up. The model FE 63 is an example of one of them. The rectangular gold dial was used on many of its table and console models. To me the long sweeping curve from the bottom right side that carries across the top really makes this an outstanding lookig radio. The dark bottom and top border is another nice touch. Truely art deco!

1935 Airline 62-316

Airline was Montgomery Wards radio brandname. Wards over the years had many different manufactures build the Airline radio sets for them. The 62-316 is a 1935 model. Again the cabinet design has rounded edges with the speaker cut outs following the curved edge. The oval dial with its multi colors is a nice touch also. On other models with multi bands the dial lamp would move so that it would highlite the color band. This really looks nice in a dark room or at night with the light out! I owned this one and the 62-318. Both were good radios.

1938 Emerson Model BD-197

Here is the model BD-197 radio. This is one of the more outrages designs to come from Emerson. Emerson in the 1930s had a number of radios where the cabinets were made by Ingraham. Ingraham made radio cabinets for other radio manufacturers also. Emerson had more made by them than any other manufacturer. Why this radio is known as the Mae West model is because when this tadio came out Mae West a young Hollywood star who was well endowed (like the front of the radios style) promoted the radio for Emerson. Mae West went on and is also know for saying Hey big spender spend a little dime with me. (Muriel Cigars) Her most famous quote was; Hey come up and see me sometime!
