1940 General Television Model 591
Some of the small companies made some very colorfull stylish radios. General Television was one of them. Pictured above is the model 591 catalin plastic table radio set. The 591 was the only catalin made by General Television. The dial face has a nice style to it. The handle on the cabinet made it easy to carry from room to room if needed. Good looking second set.
1940 Stewart Warner Model 90-51
In 1940 Stewart Warner came out with the model 90-51 wood table radio. This is one of the most stylish wood table radios made in the pre war years of the 1940s. The triangle shape of the cabinet sets this radio right off. From this shape the radio's nick name comes from. Among the collectors it's nick name is The Ace of Spades! The waterfall grill design starts at the front and goes right over the top and down the back. The side grill work is the same on both right and left sides. The chassis bolts are shown in the side grills. Even the radio knobs are quite stylish. They have thin horizontil bars with a stylish sweeping S on them. The chassis is a superhet and receives standard broadcast only. I had one in my collection but I sold it 10 years ago. This is one set I wish I still had.
1940 Addison A2
Here is another Addison A2 from 1940. This one is yellow and red. This one is showing the change of the yellow to a butterscotch color in the cabinet due to age. The knobs are still quite yellow. The red is showing it's age by turning to a pumkin orange. Click here to go to page 20.Click here to go back to page 18 of Daves Colorfull Radios. Click here to go back to my homepage.
