The final stage of development is the genital stage. After a long time of sexual rest, the libidinal instinct is once again evoked. The stage begins during the age of puberty (11-13 years) and lasts until the person begins young adulthood. The human body has begun to mature and the person is now able to reproduce. Hormones also intensify the instinctual drives. During this stage, conflicts in previous stages are reopened. Successfully completing this stage guarantees a strong foundation for personality. The person is able to participate in all activities, social and romantic, with meaning. He or she will also have a high level of productivity. Those who do not complete this stage will always have unresolved problems especially from their past. These people may even face identity confusion (Kaplan and Sadock, Synopsis of Psychiatry 214).
