The South Shore is a neighborhood directly south of Hyde Park. This neighborhood has a healthy population of upper-middle class people, so it has remained intact from the decay of surrounding neighborhoods.

South Shore is not easily accessible by El, so the best alternatives are buses or Commuter rail. This first shot is from the 76th st. station.

As we head east, we intersect South Shore drive. This stretch of street bears a resemblance to Sheridan Rd, which is far away in Edgewater, on Chicago's north side.

Further up the street is the South Shore country club. This was once a white only establishment. Today its a public park and meeting place for festivals.

Here is 75th street, looking west. This street travels through most of the south side until it's stopped by the Dan Ryan expressway. There are plenty more commercial streets like this in the South Side.

Residential Streets

This is view looking north down South Shore drive. The building in the foreground is a new development of townhomes.

This large apt. building is undergoing a renovation so it can be converted to condos.

Looking west on 71st street. This is the core shopping district of South Shore. The shopping district has a large strip-mall development that's horribly out of place. These next photos show different angles of the commercial area.

The last two pics are taken from the Bryn Mawr commuter rail station
