Hyde Park is located in the south side, but most south siders don't associate Hyde Park with the south side. They simply just say "It's Hyde Park". Could it be it's poor connection to rapid transit? Could it be a testorone-filled rant from hardened residents of other rough-edged neighborhoods. Residents who don't want a "soft" neighborhood associated with their rough-neck section of the city. The world will never know. One thing that is apparent is that Hyde Park is a dense, self-contained neighborhood with access to many cultural institutions, including: The Museum of Science and Industry, Du Sable Museum of Black History, F.Lloyd Wright's Robie House, Promitory Point on the lakefront, and two major parks that are connected by a scenic walkway. Along with that it has every type of amenity possible, truly making it a self-contained neighborhood. The University of Chicago has succeeded in keeping bad elements from surrounding neighborhoods from entering Hyde Park. The U of C also keeps the area vibrant with a rotating student population. Maybe the hard knocks really just envy Hyde Park.

This first view is of 53rd Street.

Hyde Park Blvd. is a residential street that has a bus route through it; a rarity in Chicago.

Apt. buildings and houses down the same street.

Closing up the end of the street is the Museum of Science and Industry.

This view is of high rises taken from the Museum Campus.

Looking west on Stony Island towards South Shore.

This is 55th street, which is in the vicinity of the U of Chicago. This street is the holding grounds for a big arts festival in the Summer.

Hyde Park has a nice mix of high rises, low rise apt. buildings, rowhouses and single family homes.

On 57th street is the Midway Plaisance and the majority of the U's campuses. Midway Plaisance is the huge grassy walkway that connects the lakefront park, Jackson Park, with it's further west neighbor, Washington Park.
