Chapter 6

The next day we had a full plate of recordings. Mr.Wright had a deadline for our first album. In two weeks we will be flying to Germany to release our first single. I was extremely excited today because I as about to see an old friend. Katie Thomas had gone to school with me in first through fifth grade before moving to Florida. She was coming over today with her friends, the Backstreet Boys. Her boyfriend is one of them, Nick Carter.

I was wandering around the bus when a knock came at the door. Only Katie would knock on a bus door. I ran to the front and let them in.

“Caryn!!! Oh my God!! I haven’t seen you in about 6 years! How are you?”

“I’m doin’ great Katie. Great. Hey, I wanna meet your boyfriend. Bring him in here.” Katie nodded, and reached her hand around the corner. She pulled hard, and a tall guy came stumbling over.

“This is Nick Carter. My guy.” Nick didn’t say anything, but he waved. He was about six feet tall I would say, and sort of walked hunched over. He had medium length dirty blond hair, and enchanting baby blue eyes. He looked cuter with his glasses.

“I never wear glasses you know. I have contacts. I was just too lazy to put them in today.”

Nick sounded sleepy. I felt embarrassed because I was staring straight into his eyes. There was something about him that made you just sit there and stare. I finally snapped out of it when Katie asked if they could come in.

“It’s fryin’ out here. Your bus has air-conditioning. You are very lucky.”

I nodded and waved them in. Nick kept staring at me as they brushed past. Everyone else but me was gone so I led them into the entertainment room. Nick sat across from me, and Katie was next to him. He just kept on staring. It was starting to get creepy.

“So, what have you been up to lately?”

“..Huh? Oh, uh nothin’ much. Just the manager of NSYNC.”

“NSYNC?”

“Yeah, Nick. That’s a new musical group. They’re not known yet, right?”

“Right.” I said nodding. “We’re releasing our album in about a year.”

“That’s nice. Hey, where is the bathroom?” Katie asked, nodding to Nick who was looking all around.

“ Why don’t I show him where it is and I’ll get us some snacks while I’m at it?”

“Sounds great!” I led Nick out of the room, and slid close the door behind us.

“It’s right there, Nick.” I said, pointing to a small, open door next to the bunks.

“Mmmm Hmmm,” he just mumbled as he walked past me. As he turned to close the door, we locked eyes again. This time I couldn’t look away. He didn’t either. I felt a feeling rise in me to say something, but I didn’t. He came out of the bathroom and stood next to me. Nick leaned over and smiled at me.

“Do I know you? You look so familiar.”

“Uh, I don’t think so. Do you know anyone by the name of Ford?”

“Jordan! Jordan Ford! God, you look different.”

I laughed as hard as I could.

“No, No! I'm not Jordan! I'm her best friend, Caryn Wolf.”

“Oh. Okay. I have to go to the bathroom.”

I giggled as her entered the bathroom, and I began making snacks. After a few minutes he came out and leaned on the counter where I was washing a few dishes.

“Need any help?”

“Um, no. Yes. I dunno, sure! Here, take this.” I handed him a bowl of popcorn. Nick laughed to himself, and returned to the entertainment room. Before long we were all seated in the entertainment room laughing our heads off at Dana Carvey’s comedy special. Nick and I kept locking eyes and giggling throughout the whole thing. Katie began to get suspicious near the end.

“Nick, what’s so funny?”

“Nothing Katie. Nothing at all.”

“Oh I see.” She said, crossing her arms. “An inside joke.”

“I’ll tell you someday.” Nick took a moment to look at his watch before standing up. “We gotta go. We have a rehearsal in a few minutes.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow maybe Caryn?”

“Sure Kate. Give me a call, will you?”

“Sure. See you Care.”

“Later Caryn.”

Nick took Katie’s hand and they walked out together.

“God they look cute together.” I said to no one. I sighed heavily as I started to clean up. “I wish I had a boyfriend.”
