I guess I should start by saying this page is about Boy Scouts, but no, I'm not a boy. And no, I've never been a girl scout. However, my father is scoutmaster of Troop 458, and my mother is cubmaster of Pack 458, and my brother is an eagle scout, who followed the trail all the way from Tiger. So you could say that I'm an honorary scout. Also, I on the pack committee for Pack 458. I am the webmaster of their web page. You can see it here. And if that isn't enough, last summer, I married a Life Scout, who is now also a pack committee member.

I wanted to start a page with some info for anyone that wanted it, and to just post some pics for my friends of how much fun it is to work with scouts. I've been an adult leader during summer camp for my brother's troop. Now, just cause I'm an adult leader, doesn't mean that I'm all that old. You only have to be 18 (I'm older than that). I've also led or taught at cub scout day camp for nine summers now, and these pictures are from the past three year's camps.
This picture is two of the boy scouts, that have worked day camp for quite a few years, and me. The one standing is now my boyfriend (after working together for five years) and the little one is like a brother to me.

Now to let you know why I do this...
I think scouting is one of the best things that a guy can do. I've seen my brother, and so many other boys, become men through this program. They learn respect, obedience, reverence, self-discipline, and self-esteem by growing up in scouts. They can prove that they are worth something to others, and to themselves.
I love working with Scouts. It tickles me to death when one of the cubs says "Your class is my favorite, other than BB's." I love when the boys are spouting off Spanish to everyone by the third day; when they say "gracias" to their leaders, instead of "thank you". They aren't forced to learn it, they just want to.
I even like going to summer camp with the older boys, as hot, and muggy, and mosquito-y as it is. The older guys treat me as one of their own, and the younger guys think I'm more fun (than the older leaders).
And lastly, I've gained a whole new family through scouting. I have been around through most of the guys' trek through scouting. So many of them treat me as a sister, rather than just another girl hanging around. Some of the adults see me as a peer, and others see me as one of the scouts (only slightly different), and one other sees me as her girl.
Scouting is more than knots and leatherworks, it's more than a once-a-year camp, it's family. That's why I love doing it.
