Two Models of telecommunications: Tree & Branch versus Switched Network
Tree-and-branch model: A central information provider sends out information through many channels to the consumers. It is used by media broadcasting. It is also used by cable and entertainment companies to provide movies and other media from a centralized location.
Switched-network model: In this system the people on the system are not only the consumers but can also be providers. This is the model the telephone system and most computer networks work including the internet.
