The Potential Effects of the Switched-Network Model including Napster & file sharing
Napster and other file sharing allows internet users to download and share files including but not limited to music and game programs. Most of the files shared were originally copyrighted so people downloading from another person without permission from the owner of the copyright are pirating the software.
Napster went from a free means of sharing music to were the users had to subscribe to download it so that the copyright holders would be compensated for their media or programs.
Other free file sharing such as Gnutella, Morpheus and kazaa havetaken slack because they rely more on the user's computer to transfer the files rather than a company's computer.
