Hardware: ISDN Modems |
Equipment and downsides of ISDN: As was described in the tutorial page, ISDN: What is ISDN?, ISDN is a specialized Internet connection that works off a special line that has to be routed specifically into a home or a small business. The appeal of ISDN is that it delivers a download rate of 128k. The downfall of ISDN is that it requires a specialized telephone line to operate and with the option of dial-up, even though it is slower, but more available, and now the options of cable and dsl lines which also require a special line, but not has hard to find or have installed into a household and that offer download rates that are much faster then ISDN as well. The equipment used in an ISDN setup involves a modem, that is either internal or external to the computer and the before mentioned specialized line from the phone company. Below are two examples of ISDN modems, what they look like, and the breakdown of the parts of the external ISDN modem as well. For a more in-depth look at how ISDN works and operates it is recommended to go back and review the page ISDN: What is ISDN? |
