17th March 2001 . The blues today crashed to their second home defeat of the season and their second league defeat in a row. Bottom club Hednesford Town beat City 1-0 at the Deva thanks to a Jake Sedgemore penalty in the 89th minute. Their was no doubt about the fact it was a penalty after Carl Ruffer tripped a Hednesford forward in the box and from the spot kick Sedgemore sent Brown the wrong way to clinch three valuable points for the Staffordshire club. In truth City should have been home and dry by the time Hednesford grabbed a winner. City put Hednesford under pressure for virtually the whole 90 minutes but where guilty of missing chance after chance and in the end the Pitmen probably deserved the three points for their hard work. It's down to seventh in the league now for the blues and it was again a game like so, so many this season where City failed to beat or this time even pick up any points against a side at the foot of the table.
