16th March 2001

.  Rumors are rife that Chester chairman Terry Smith has backed out of a proposed   takeover deal by a Liverpool businessman.

There was strong talk last weekend that Smith had agreed to sell the club to a businessman who formally ran the Cream Nightclub in Liverpool.

A Press Conference was expected to be called on Monday to announce details of the sale but nothing was heard and now rumors are again rife that Smith has now backed out of a deal to sell the club because the potential new owner wouldn't agree to the following clauses:

. Smith to remain on the coaching staff at Chester FC until the end of the season

. East Stand renamed to The Terry Smith Family Stand

. A testimonial game to be played at the the start of each season

. A 20% stake in the club

Now if the rumors are true, and I believe they are I see it as scandalous. Its apparent to me that Terry has seen that he is one game away from a major final and perhaps even silverware, this would lead to TV appearances etc to further enhance his ego.

I'm sorry if you don't agree with my personal thoughts but many supporters still don't realise the full extent of what Terry Smith has done to our club, they believe what they read in the papers and the fact is that the papers are scared of Smith themselves and won't print anything that would be against him.

My appeal to supporters would be to keep the pressure up on Mr Smith, it was in the wake of the planned protests last week that Mr Smith's talk of selling the club first came about but following the rumors he was selling the pressure seemed to ware off him. We must keep the pressure on him at Saturday's home game and make him fully aware just how we feel about him and what he's doing to our club.

This website is certainly in full support of any Smith out protests as the sooner the loony is out of the club the better, as the longer he stays there the more damage he is doing to OUR club and the future of CCFC.
