Ole Fire Ball

The Johnny Horton Fishing Lure, Ole Fire Ball (left) and Tillman Franks, Johnny Horton's Manager and Partner, holds a red colored Ole Fire Ball in this Feb. 1998 photo. (right)
Johnny Horton was known as "The Singing Fisherman." From early on, he had an interest in fishing and his friends all say it was one of his biggest loves and he was best at it.

In March of 1959, Horton opened Cane River Bait Co. in Natchitoches, LA., where he manufactured fishing lures. The business was short lived, but he did produce his most famous bait, "Ole Fire ball."

Now you can own a re-creation of this popular lure. Ole Fire Ball comes to you just as the ones Horton made more than 40 years ago. With it comes Horton's directions on how to catch big bass with the lure, a 12-page newspaper file about Cane River Bait Co. and an 8 x 10 picture of Johnny Horton and Johnny Cash inside the Bait Co.
