Board Breaking is part of our martial arts program.  We use open palm breaking as our main breaking strike as it is easier on the hand. We mostly use plastic rebreakable boards as real boards are very costly. When we do public demonstrations, or every so often we break out the real boards and cement to gage our real striking power. We belong to the IBF International Breaking Federation founded by Israel Velez. We never use spacers and use boards from Negus Lumber, Home Depot, or Plymouth Pine. We prefer boards that are 12x10x1 inch in size. This way the grain can not be confused. It is for safety that we use this dimension. Everyone from the kids to the adults participate. Come join the fun.

I suggest that you order boards from Plymouth Pine, http://www.plymouthpine.com Order the 12x10x1 inch boards. Bring them to the dojo and we can break during class. The smaller kids can get the 12x6x1 inch boards. This way we keep a standard for board breaking. You can order them online or take a trip to their facility. Hopefully in the future we can enter breaking competitions.
