Transmission
I switched
from a Turbo 350 (3-speed auto) to a 700-R4 (4 speed auto) last
winter. I did this in the interest of better highway cruising. I
drive the car to the track, and with the 350 and 4.11 gears, the
engine was screaming to go 65 mph. It's much better now. The RPM
is about 2200-2300 going 65. However, this trans was bought used
from a local guy, and it doesn't shift as well as it should at
the track. It has a delay during the 1-2 shift. Another problem I
had was setting up the TV cable. This is the
cable that attaches to the throttle. It controls pressure and
shifting in the trans. Select Performance set me up with a
bracket that bolts onto the BG throttle and places the pivot
point in the proper location. Click here to see how I installed
this transmission.
UPDATE 11/00:
The transmission has been rebuilt and now shifts fine.
