Whisper In The Wind

By Loyalbrooke

Chapter 3

Brooke, "How’d you get in here?"

David, "I have my ways. So, you miss me?"

Brooke, "No, not in the least."

David, "Shame, because I missed you." He went over to her.

Brooke, "What do you want?"

David, "What I’ve always wanted…you. And I *always* get what I want."

Brooke, "Not this time. So why don’t you leave?"

David, "And miss out on this opportunity? No, I think I’ll stay."

Brooke, "Please, just leave."

David, "If I didn’t know any better I’d say you were scared of me. You scared of me Brooke?"

Brooke, "I don’t know. You tell me."

David, "Yes, I think you are. Tell me Brooke, why are you scared of me?"

Brooke, "Who says I’m scared?"

David, "I can smell fear you know."

Brooke, "No, more like I’m disgusted with you."

David, "Really? How come?"

Stephanie, "Linda."

Linda, "Hello Stephanie. Is Massimo home?"

Stephanie, "Yes, he is. May I ask what this is about?"

Linda, "I just need to talk to him."

Stephanie sighed. "He’s in the study."

Linda, "Thank you." She went into the study. "Mass?"

Massimo, "What do I owe this visit to?"

Linda, "It’s about David."

Massimo, "He’s in town, I know."

Linda, "I need your help in getting him out of town."

Massimo, "Why?"

Linda, "Because of what he’s done."

Massimo, "He hasn’t been in town long enough to have done something."

Linda, "He did this four years ago…he’s the man who raped Brooke."

Massimo, "I know you don’t like him. But to blame him for that?"

Linda, "He admitted it."

Massimo, "No, I don’t believe it."

Linda, "Mass, please, he’s a carbon copy of your father."

Massimo, "Don’t ever compare David to him."

Linda, "And why not? It’s true. After I lost custody of him to you, you left David to be raised by that monster. Your first clue should have been when David was the only one who even cried at his funeral."

Massimo, "Why didn’t you step in?"

Linda, "I spent five years trying. By the time I was able to anything, David was too old. David shut me out of his life."

Massimo, "What do you want me to do?"

Linda, "Just talk to him. He might listen to you." She left.

Massimo, "Something needs to be done. I’m not going to let you turn into that monster David."

David, "Why are you scared of me Brooke?"

Brooke, "You can’t figure that out?"

David, "Ah, yes. That ‘little’ incident four years ago. Am I right?"

Brooke, "Yes."

David, "Tell me Brooke, did you enjoy that?"

Brooke, "No, I didn’t."

David, "I think you did."

Brooke, "You live in your own dream world. You may think you’ve won over me, but you haven’t."

David, "Oh?"

Brooke, "No, you haven’t. I’ve moved on. I’m married, have a son, a successful company, and a family. You have nothing. And yet, you’re still obsessed with a woman who will never love you. A woman you had to force yourself on to get what you wanted. So I say you’re worst off than me."

Thorne, "Brooke in her office Megan?"

Megan, "Last I knew."

David, "And you feel nothing for me?"

Brooke, "Nothing."

David, "Then you won’t feel this." He went over to her, put his hands on her. She tried to get out of his grip but couldn’t.

Brooke, "David, don’t."

David, "Don’t what?"

Thorne tried opening the door, but found it locked. "Brooke, honey, open the door please."

David, "The knight in shining armor." He said as he started running his hand up and down her thigh. "Just the way I remember."

Brooke, "David, please."

David, "Please what?" He leaned his face in to kiss Brooke.

Brooke, "Stop it!"

Thorne heard some of what was going on. He stopped trying to get Brooke to unlock the door and broke it down instead. He saw David all over Brooke and Brooke struggling. Thorne’s anger towards David reached the boiling point. "You son of a b***." He went over to them, pulled David off of Brooke, and threw him up against the wall. "I told you to stay away from my wife!"

Ridge walked by to find Brooke’s office door on the floor and to see Thorne punch David. Steven was crying from all the commotion going on, Brooke was trying to calm him down. "What’s going on?"

Thorne then threw David over Brooke’s desk, and he landed in front of Ridge. "Call security. I want this bastard’s ass in jail before I hurt him."

Security came shortly after Ridge called. "Everything alright Mr. Forrester?"

Thorne, "Get this piece of trash out of here!"

The security guard helped David up. "Come on, let’s go."

David, "You haven’t seen the last of me."

Ridge, "That a threat Marone?"

David, "No, fact."

Ridge, "Get him out of here." Security escorted David out. "What happened?"

Thorne, "I’ll talk to you later. Right now, I’m going to get Brooke and Steven home. Listen, is there anything Taylor can prescribe for Brooke for shot nerves?"

Ridge, "Let me talk to her, I’m sure there is."

Thorne, "Thanks." Thorne left with Steven and Brooke.

FEW HOURS LATER

Thorne, "Hey."

Taylor, "Here you are. Mind telling me why Brooke needs these?"

Thorne, "Sure you want to hear this?"

Taylor, "That bad?"

Thorne, "Yeah, it is. Come in." He stepped aside and Taylor walked in. "You remember four years ago?"

Taylor, "Four years ago?" She thought some more. "Don’t tell me…"

Thorne, "Yeah, when she was raped. David was the guy who did it."

Taylor, "David Marone? Linda and Massimo’s son?"

Thorne, "Yeah, the one and only. He’s back in town. He showed up at Forrester’s today and I found him all over Brooke."

Taylor, "Oh, my…that must have been awful for her."

Thorne, "If I ever see him anywhere near Brooke again I’m not going to call for security, I’ll kill him myself."

Taylor, "You don’t mean that."

Thorne, "Yes, I do. He’s a lowlife."

Taylor, "You really do love her, don’t you?"

Thorne, "Yes, I do. Why is it so hard for everyone to believe that?"

Taylor, "You have to admit it was at first."

Thorne, "Alright, I’ll admit that much. But I think we’ve more than proved how much we love each other."

Taylor, "It’s just…" ,p> Thorne, "Brooke’s track record?"

Taylor, "Yes, her track record."

Thorne, "Alright, so she doesn’t have the best track record. But I like to think she’s just made a few mistakes along the way. Ones she’s paid for."

Taylor, "Well she has learned from them I’ll give her that. And she did finally pick a winner."

Thorne, "Well, thank you. My track record isn’t the best either. So she’s not alone in the relationship department."

Taylor, "I guess she isn’t. I’ve got to go pick up the kids from school."

Thorne, "Thanks for stopping by."

Taylor, "Anytime you need to talk, just call me."

Thorne, "I will, and thanks."

Taylor left and Rick showed up. "Mom okay?"

Thorne, "She will be."

Rick, "What happened?"

Thorne, "What do you mean?"

Rick, "I stopped by Forrester’s and her office door was on the floor."

Thorne, "Oh, just a little accident. Nothing to worry about."

Rick, "Listen Thorne, she maybe your wife, but she’s *my* mother. I don’t take kindly to people lying to me about her."

Thorne, "Alright. I didn’t want to worry you." Thorne told Rick about David and what happened in Brooke’s office.

Rick, "And this guy is out walking around? He should be in jail. Why didn’t you do something about it?" Rick, "Are you saying they’ll paint her as some kind of…"

Thorne, "That’s exactly what I’m saying. We’re going to take David Marone down Rick, just not in that way."

Rick, "What do you have in mind?"

Thorne, "A little cat and mouse game. See, David’s whole thinking is no one can outsmart him. If we can just take him down a peg or two…"

Rick, "We got him. But how are we going to do that?"

Thorne, "I think I’ve just figured out why Sally is so confident."

Rick, "Care to share?"

Thorne, "Not yet. I got to check around, find out for sure."

Rick, "You sure mom’s alright?"

Thorne, "Yeah, she’s just a little shaken up is all. Don’t worry too much."

Rick, "I’m her son, it’s my job. Thorne, you helped her through it before, help her through this."

Thorne, "I will."

Rick, "I know I’ve said this before, but I’m really glad she has you. You’ve been there for her when no one else would and when I couldn’t be there. I don’t have to worry as much anymore."

Thorne, "Do you have any idea how proud I am of you Rick? You’ve been your mother’s biggest supporter and you’ve defended her when it seemed like a lost cause."

Rick, "She’s my mom and I know a lot of people don’t want to believe it, but when I had no one growing up, I had her."

Thorne, "Yeah, but it must have been hard hearing and reading about all those things people used to say about her."

Rick, "Not really. Because they didn’t know the real her."

Thorne, "I know. And Rick you will never know how proud your mother is of you. Especially the way you’ve stuck by your commitment to Amber and Little Eric."

Rick, "I know he’s not my son by blood, but I just can’t erase that whole year where I raised him thinking he was."

Thorne, "I think he’s real lucky to have you."

Rick, "Thanks. How’s Steven doing?"

Thorne, "Finally sleeping."

Rick, "I got to go. Tell mom hi for me."

Thorne, "I will. See you Rick."

Rick, "Bye." Rick left.

Stephanie found Massimo sitting in front of the fireplace. "Care for some company?"

Massimo, "Always."

Stephanie sat down beside him. "What’s troubling you?"

Massimo, "Just stuff."

Stephanie, "Business or David?"

Massimo, "Both. But more David than business."

Stephanie, "I don’t know him that well, but I do know he’s awful bitter."

Massimo, "Yes, well he’s an adult."

Stephanie, "Which makes that bitterness worse than you think."

Massimo, "Perhaps I should leave him be."

Stephanie, "No. No, you shouldn’t. You can still get through to him. He’s not completely lost."

Massimo, "I think he is."

Stephanie, "Why do you say that?" Massimo explained everything to her. Stephanie looked at Massimo. "He what?" Stephanie may have had her differences with Brooke, but even she didn’t condone anyone raping Brooke. "And he admitted it?"

Massimo, "Yes. His mother came right out and asked him."

Stephanie, "How’s Linda taking it?"

Massimo, "Oh, about how you would expect her to."

Stephanie, "If you want to be with her, I’ll understand."

Massimo, "No. I don’t think that’s a good idea. Besides, she has Eric."

Stephanie, "And you have me." She moved closer to him and he put his arms around her. "Don’t you ever be afraid to tell me anything."

Massimo, "I promise you, I won’t."

Stephanie, "Do you regret marrying Linda?"

Massimo, "Regret? No, I don’t think I have. Despite how our marriage ended. There was a time when we did love on another. But along the way that changed."

Stephanie, "Like Eric and I."

Massimo, "Do you regret what you had with him?"

Stephanie, "I used to. But then I realized that it wasn’t all bad. Were there plenty of bad times? Yes. Some worst than others. But there were also plenty of good times as well. Let’s not dwell on the future too much. We’ve got a whole future to look forward to, a brand new grandson to enjoy." Massimo lit the fireplace and they enjoyed the rest of the evening in front of it.

Thorne was sitting on the couch with Steven when Brooke went downstairs. "Hey, you’re up."

Brooke, "Yeah. I, uh, woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep." She sat down beside Thorne. "I see someone else is up to."

Thorne, "Yeah. He woke up and I decided to bring him down here with me."

Brooke, "He’s got you wrapped around his finger."

Thorne, "I know he does. Just the way I want it. How are you feeling?"

Brooke, "I’m not sure how I should feel. I keep asking myself the same question over and over."

Thorne, "What question is that?"

Brooke, "Why me? Why’d this have to happen to me?"

Thorne, "I don’t think there’s really an answer to that one."

Brooke, "Shouldn’t there be? There has to be some reason why he’s so obsessed with me."

Thorne, "If there is, only he knows the answer. Brooke, whatever the answer is, it has nothing to do with anything you’ve done. This is all David."

Brooke, "A lot of people would disagree with you."

Thorne, "A lot of people don’t know you."

Brooke, "Not like you, huh?"

Thorne, "That’s exactly right. Rick stopped by earlier."

Brooke, "Everything alright?"

Thorne, "Yeah. He wanted to know what happened at Forrester’s today."

Brooke, "You didn’t tell him, did you?"

Thorne, "Yeah, I did."

Brooke, "Thorne…"

Thorne, "What? You know Rick, even if I had lied he would of known it."

Brooke, "I know. He’s very protective of me."

Thorne, "Yes, he is. He’s a good kid."

Brooke, "I know he is. I hope I do half as good a job with Steven that I did with Rick and Bridget."

Thorne, "We will."

Brooke, "I really like the sound of that. Does anyone else know?"

Thorne, "Taylor does, and I think that’s it."

Brooke, "Maybe we should tell the rest of the family. What do you think?"

Thorne, "I think it’s up to you. You know I’ll support you in whatever decision you make."

Brooke leaned over and rested her head on his shoulder. "I know you will. Which makes the decision easier to make." She started falling asleep. Thorne kissed her on the forehead. He sat on the couch holding Steven, and not moving. He didn’t want to disturb either one.

NEXT DAY

Thorne, "You sure you’re up for going in?"

Brooke, "Yes. I’m more than up for it. Soon as Rick and Amber get here we can leave. And there they are." She said as she opened the door.

Rick, "Waiting on us?"

Brooke, "Thank you for watching him."

Rick, "No problem. Besides, we didn’t have anything better to do anyways."

Brooke, "So this is just to pass the boredom of the day?"

Rick, "Yeah, I guess it is."

Brooke, "As long as you have a reason. We’ll see you later. And…"

Amber, "We know. Call if there’s any problems. Go on, get into work."

Thorne, "Bye." Thorne and Brooke left."

Jerry, "Are you sure about this? Having one of them arrested, you’d better make sure the charges are going to stick."

David, "Oh, I’m quite sure."

Jerry, "Alright. I’ll have the police arrest him."

David, "And today is preferable."

Jerry, "Right Mr. Marone. I’ll get right on it."

LATER IN THE DAY

Brooke, "Anyone have any ideas what the theme for the fall showing should be?"

Ridge, "How bout we do something totally different? A Halloween theme."

Brooke, "Any other ideas?"

Ridge, "Come on, it’s a great idea."

Brooke, "You’re serious?"

Ridge, "Yeah."

Officer, "In there?"

Megan, "Yes." Two police officers went into Eric’s office, followed by Megan. "I’m sorry. There wasn’t anything I could do."

Brooke, "It’s alright Megan. Officers, I’m Brooke Forrester, CEO of this company. What’s going on?"

First officer, "We’re looking for Thorne Forrester."

Thorne, "That’s me."

Second officer, "Stand up please." They went over to Thorne.

Thorne, "What’s wrong?"

First officer, "You’re under arrest for the assault of David Marone."

Thorne, "What?" They read Thorne his rights. "This is crazy."

Stephanie, "Megan, call Jonathon."

Megan, "Sure thing."

Brooke, "I’m going with you."

Thorne, "No, stay here and wait for Jonathon." They left.

Brooke, "I can’t believe this is happening. All this because of me."

Stephanie, "You don’t blame yourself, do you?"

Brooke, "I can’t help but think some of it is. Thorne assaulted David because of me."

Stephanie, "Thorne was defending you. I’d be disappointed in him if he hadn’t. We’ll work this out when Jonathon gets here."

Brooke, "I’m going to my office. Let me know when he gets here."

Stephanie, "We will." Brooke left. "We’ve got to do something about David."

Eric, "I agree, but what?"

Ridge, "We could always send Deacon after him."

Eric, "That idea’s not half bad."

Ridge, "What is his problem with Brooke anyways?"

Eric, "What do you mean?"

Ridge, "Thorne told me what happened at Café Russe the other night, plus what happened here yesterday. Seems to me he has an unhealthy obsession with her."

Stephanie, "I think he does."

Officer, "Ridge Forrester?"

Ridge, "I never laid a hand on Marone."

Officer, "We’re not here for that."

Ridge, "Oh, well, in that case…how can I help you?"

Officer, "Did you know a Morgan DeWitt?"

Ridge, "Unfortunately, yes. Why?"

Officer, "She was in a serious car wreck early this morning, she died shortly after getting to the hospital."

Ridge, "What? Oh, man. Was there anyone else in the car with her? Like an eight month old baby?"

Officer, "No, just her."

Ridge, "Thank god."

Officer, "That she’s dead?"

Ridge, "No, we had an eight month old son. I’m glad he wasn’t in the car."

Officer, "Our condolences. Have a good day folks."

Ridge, "Thank you. I can’t believe this. She’s just gone."

Eric, "How do you feel?"

Ridge, "I don’t know. I’m not sure I feel anything."

Beth, "And why aren’t you at home?" Brooke turned her chair around and Beth could see that Brooke had been crying. "Brooke, what’s wrong?"
