CHAPTER 4

Beth, “Brooke, what’s wrong?”

Brooke, “Thorne’s been arrested.”

Beth, “For what?”

Brooke, “You know Linda and Massimo’s son, David?”

Beth, “Yes. What’s he got to do with this?”

Brooke, “Thorne was arrested for assaulting him.”

Beth, “What? Thorne would never do anything like that, would he?”

Brooke, “He did. He was defending me.”

Beth, “Well, in that case, I say David had no business having Thorne arrested.”

Brooke, “Well, he did.”

Beth, “What did David do to cause Thorne to do that?”

Jonathon, “Stephanie said you’d be in here. Beth.”

Beth, “Hello Jonathon. I’m going to talk to Eric.” Beth left.

Jonathon, “What’s going on?”

Brooke, “You know Thorne’s been arrested.”

Jonathon, “For assaulting David Marone, yes. Why did he do that?” He waited a few minutes. “Brooke, you know that anything you say will be kept between us.”

Brooke, “I know.” She explained everything to him.

Jonathon, “I think I may be able to get the charges dropped. Did anyone besides Thorne see him all over you?”

Brooke, “No, unfortunately they didn’t.”

Jonathon, “Now, don’t give up, but it’s going to be a little tough.”

Brooke, “But you can get him off?”

Jonathon, “I should be able to, yes. And then we’ll see about getting David for what he did to you.”

Brooke, “Let’s just work on getting my husband home to me and our son first.”

Jonathon, “Of course. I’ll get back to you when I’ve got something.”

Brooke, “Thank you Jonathon.” She got on her intercom after Jonathon left. “Megan, I’m going home for the rest of the day.”

Megan, “Okay. Take care of yourself Brooke.”

Brooke, “I’ll try.” She left Forrester Creations and went home. When she got home Rick and Amber were on the couch with Little Eric and Rick was holding Steven. “Hi.”

Rick, “Back so soon?”

Brooke, “Yeah, I am.”

Rick, “Thorne still at work?”

Brooke, “No, uh…”

Amber, “What’s wrong?”

Before Brooke could say anything the entire Forrester family, minus Deacon, showed up. They all started to talk at the same time.

Rick, “HEY!” They all settled down. “Now, one at a time here people.”

Bridget, “Why was Thorne arrested?”

Brooke, “For assaulting David Marone.”

Bridget, “Why would he do that?”

Brooke looked to Rick, then Taylor. Both gave her a look that said to tell everyone. Brooke told them everything. Ridge listened to it and started to walk out the door. Taylor stopped him. “Where are you going?”

Ridge, “To show this jerk what assault really is. By the time I’m through with him he won’t be able to pick the phone up to call the police.”

Brooke, “Ridge, no. I won’t have you getting arrested either.”

Ridge, “Yeah, well, like I said…”

Brooke, “Ridge, no. Let Jonathon handle it. Please?”

Ridge, “Alright.”

Brooke, “Thank you. Now, if all of you will excuse me, I’m really not in the mood for company right now.”

Ridge, “If you need anything, don’t hesitate to let me or Taylor know.”

Brooke, “I won’t.”

Bridget, “Same goes for me and Deacon.”

Brooke, “Thank you.”

They all started to walk out. Rick looked at Amber. “You go ahead. I want to talk to mom.”

Amber, “Okay. I’ll get Ridge and Taylor to take me and Eric home.”

Rick, “Thanks. I’ll see you at home.” He went over to the couch. “Mom?”

Brooke, “Yes, Rick?”

Rick, “Why do I get the feeling there’s more to this than you’re letting on?”

Brooke, “I never could keep anything from you, could I?”

Rick, “Well, dad always has said I’m my mother’s son.”

Brooke, “Your father is a very smart man.”

Rick, “So, how bout it? I know I’m not Thorne…”

Brooke, “But you’re old enough as to where you deserve the truth.” She paused for a moment. “Right after Ridge left me for Taylor, shortly after Thomas was born, you know how much that hurt me.”

Rick, “Yeah, it about destroyed you.”

Brooke, “You remember I was gone for awhile?”

Rick, “Yeah, you said something about needing to get away?”

Brooke, “Right. I had to get away from Ridge.”

Rick, “Well, I can’t blame you there. Wait. Was that when? Because the next time anyone saw you…”

Brooke, “Yeah, it was. Anyways, I just drove and drove until I stopped at this small town and I went into the bar there.”

Rick, “You in a bar?”

Brooke, “My thinking wasn’t too good at the time. Nor did I want it to be.”

Rick, “I’ll say.”

Brooke, “Anyways, it was in there I met David. At the time I didn’t really know who he was. We got to talking all night, he just seemed like one of the nicest people I had ever met. We went out the next night, got to know each other a little better.”

Rick, “And he gave no indication he was any different?”

Brooke, “No, none at all. At the time he was everything I needed to forget about Ridge and all my problems here.”

Rick, “But what happened?”

Brooke, “I don’t know, I really don’t. I wish I did, because I’d do anything to get that David back.”

Rick, “Don’t tell me you feel sorry for him.”

Brooke, “No, not necessarily. Anyways, one night when we went out I made a stupid mistake.”

Rick, “What?”

Brooke, “I slept with him.”

Rick, “What?!”

Brooke, “I slept with him. Later that day it sunk in what I had really done. I let my vulnerabilities get the best of me. But then again I really didn’t care what I was doing at the time. I regretted it, but David didn’t. So, the next night he prepared a very romantic dinner for us and he had hoped we would sleep together again. But I told him the first time was an awful mistake and if we slept together again, it’d be an even bigger mistake.”

Rick, “I take it he didn’t take that too well?”

Brooke, “No, he didn’t. He started to show a side to him I hadn’t seen nor did I like. And you know the rest.”

Rick, “Why didn’t you tell anyone all this?”

Brooke, “Why didn’t I? People already think the worst of me. This will only give them more ammo.”

Rick, “Mom, what happened wasn’t your fault.”

Brooke, “If I hadn’t slept with…”

Rick, “NO! It doesn’t matter. It wasn’t your fault. You should tell Thorne.”

Thorne, “Tell Thorne what?”

Brooke looked up. “Thorne?” She went over to him and put her arms around him. “I didn’t think you’d be home tonight.” She saw Jonathon standing there. “Thank you.”

Jonathon, “Don’t thank me yet. There’s going to be a hearing. I couldn’t get him out of that.”

Brooke, “The important thing is, he’s home.”

Jonathon, “I’ll stop by tomorrow and we’ll discuss this some more.”

Thorne, “Alright and Jonathon, thanks.”

Jonathon, “No thanks necessary.” He left.

Rick, “I’m going to go ahead and go home.” He kissed his mother on the cheek. “Please, just tell him.”

Brooke, “I will.” Rick left. “I’m just glad you’re home.”

Thorne, “So am I. Brooke, is there something I need to know?”

Brooke, “Yes, there is.” She told him everything she told Rick.

Thorne, “Why didn’t you tell me before now?”

Brooke, “I was afraid?”

Thorne, “Afraid of what? Of how I would react to it?”

Brooke, “Mostly, yeah.”

Thorne, “Mostly?”

Brooke, “Thorne, at the time I didn’t even want to admit to myself what happened. I still don’t. I found not talking about any of it was the best thing for me.”

Thorne, “You should of told me.”

Brooke, “I know, but I made the best choice I could for me. I’m sorry.”

Thorne, “For what?”

Brooke, “Not trusting you enough to tell you.”

Thorne, “I’m not going to pretend that I’m not hurt that you didn’t tell me the truth. Because I am, a little. But I can understand why you didn’t.”

Brooke, “I should of trusted you.”

Thorne, “No, I’m not hurt because of that. I’m hurt that you’d rather go through it alone than tell me. Brooke, you didn’t have to carry all this on your own.”

Brooke, “I was afraid that you’d run if you ever found out.”

Thorne, “Brooke, I told you from the beginning for better or for worse, and I meant it. Those words didn’t take affect when we said them a year ago. I mean it, I’m not going to run. For better or for worse you’re stuck with me.”

Brooke, “I think that falls under for better.”

Taylor, “Would you calm down?”

Ridge, “If I ever get my hands on him…”

Taylor, “You’ll what? Still want to play the part of Brooke’s knight in shining armor?”

Ridge, “What’re you talking about?”

Taylor, “Every time Brooke is in trouble, you go rushing to her.”

Ridge, “So? Someone has to.”

Taylor, “Yeah, Thorne. Or have you forgotten that your brother is married to her.”

Ridge, “No, I haven’t.”

Taylor, “Ridge, it isn’t your place or job to play Brooke’s protector anymore. It’s Thorne’s job. And from what I’ve seen he’s doing a good job at it.”

Ridge, “Oh, come on Doc.”

Taylor, “After all this time it still bugs you that Brooke doesn’t turn to you anymore, doesn’t it?”

Ridge, “You’re making too much out of this.”

Taylor, “Am I?”

Ridge, “Yes, you are.”

Taylor, “Why do I even bother? I’m always going to be second best to you.”

Ridge, “This is ridiculous. I married you didn’t I?”

Taylor, “Did you?”

Ridge, “Doc…”

Taylor, “No, forget it. You’re never going to get it. I’m going to pick the kids up.”

Ridge, “Taylor…” She left. Ridge sat down on the couch.

Bridget arrived at home, Deacon’s car was in the drive. “Deacon?”

Deacon, “Hey, no class?”

Bridget, “All done for the day. Home early?”

Deacon, “Yeah, until later. I stopped by Forrester’s and Megan said everyone had gone home?”

Bridget, “Yeah, something came up.”

Deacon, “Everything alright?” He waited a few minutes. “Bridget, what’s wrong?”

Bridget, “You know the guy who raped mom 4 years ago?”

Deacon, “Yeah, I remember you telling me about that. What about him.”

Bridget, “He’s David Marone…Linda and Massimo’s son.”

Deacon, “What?! You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Bridget, “No, I’m not. And earlier today Thorne found him all over mom.”

Deacon, “I hope Thorne gave him what he was asking for.”

Bridget, “Yeah, and he got arrested for his troubles too.”

Deacon, “So, David should be in jail.”

Bridget, “Jonathon’s working on it.”

Deacon, “Good.” He thought for a moment.

Bridget, “What are you planning to do?”

Deacon, “Nothing, don’t worry about it.”

Bridget, “Deacon…”

Deacon, “Bridget, please, just trust me.”

Bridget, “I do. I just don’t want you doing anything that’ll get you arrested. Thorne’s already been arrested.”

Deacon, “Alright, look, I promise you I won’t do anything like that.”

Bridget, “Thank you.”

Deacon, “I’m going to head back to the Lair. Call me if you need anything or just need to talk.”

Bridget, “I will.”

Deacon left.

LATER

Customer, “Come on, one more.”

Deacon looked at Alex. “Alright, give him a watered down coke. Shape he’s in he won’t know the difference.”

Alex, “Right. Heads up Deac.”

Deacon, “I want you to get him to meet me up on the roof. I don’t care how, just do it.” Deacon left, taking a bottle of whiskey with him.

David sat down at the bar. Alex went over to him. “Evening.”

David, “What’s a knockout like you doing in this place?”

Alex, “Right, like I’ve never heard that line before. So, what’s your poison?”

David, “What’s yours?”

Alex, “A man open to suggestions, I like that.”

David, “So, what do you suggest?”

Alex, “The roof.”

David, “The roof? Little kinky, don’t you think?”

Alex, “I like kinky.” She started walking towards the door to get to the roof. “Coming?”

David, “Why not?” David followed her up the stairs and to the roof. “Now what?”

Alex turned to leave. “You really should be more careful on who you follow.” She went back inside.

Deacon was standing near the ledge. “Marone?”

David, “Yeah, who wants to know?”

Deacon turned around. “Me.”

David, “And you are?”

Deacon, “The last sight you’ll ever see with the mood I’m in right now.”

David, “Is there a reason for this, ‘meeting’? Or are you just wasting my time?”

Deacon, “Seems me and you have a problem.”

David, “Really? Can’t imagine what it is.”

Deacon, “I’m sure you can’t. Seems you’ve got an obsession with a certain woman.”

David, “Ah, yes, Brooke Logan. So, she screw you and then treat you like dirt?”

Deacon, “That’s funny, I got a totally different version from her. See, Marone, the problem is this…she’s my mother-in-law.”

David, “Ah, yes, now I remember why you look so familiar. You’re Deacon Sharpe.”

Deacon, “Very good.”

Bridget, “Hey. Come in.”

Rick, “Thanks. Deacon home?”

Bridget, “No, he’s at work.”

Amber, “Does he know…”

Bridget, “Yeah, I told him. Why?”

Amber, “Well, nothing. It’s just that we passed The Lair on our way over her and we saw David going in.”

Bridget, “So? Deacon promised he wouldn’t do anything stupid.”

Amber, “And you believe him?”

Bridget, “Yeah, I do. Why shouldn’t I?”

Amber, “Your mother was the first one after you who gave him any kind of real chance. And because of that Deacon’s going to show how protective of his family he can be.”

Bridget, “You don’t think…”

Rick, “Let’s get over there. Might save someone.”

Amber, “Yeah, David.”

Rick, “I could care less about him.” All three left and arrived at The Lair 15 minutes later. Rick looked around. “Well I don’t see David anywhere. There’s Alex.” They went over to the bar. “David still here?”

Alex, “David Marone? Yeah, Deac’s talking to him.”

Amber, “Great.”

Alex, “What’s the problem?”

Bridget, “Deacon tell you what happen?”

Alex, “Just that David hurt his family. But judging from the mood he was in I’d say it was pretty bad.”

Rick, “Yeah, it was. Where are they?”

Alex, “No offense you guys, but Deacon is the only one in your family who can scare the you-know-what out of someone. And they’ll think twice before trying him again.”

Rick, “We still got to stop him.”

Alex, “Leave it. Deacon knows what he’s doing.”

Rick, “I hope so.”

David, “You know what I can’t figure out?”

Deacon, “Gee, I don’t know. But, if I had to take a wild guess, I’d say it’s how to be a human being?”

David, “What I can’t figure out is why go for the little girl when you could have had the mother. Then again, I can see why.”

Deacon, “Really Dr. Ruth?”

David, “Why go for the mother who, from my experience, has been around the block one too many times. Go for the uncharted territory. Tell me, she as good in the sack as I know her mother is?” Deacon had heard enough, he grabbed David by the shirt and slammed him up against the door. “So, this the bad side of Deacon Sharpe I’ve heard so much about?”

Deacon, “You haven’t begun to see my bad side.” He threw David on the ground, close to the ledge. He then picked up the bottle of whiskey and threw some on David.

David, “What’re you doing?”

Deacon, “Ooops, I’m sorry. Then again as close to the ledge as you are and no witnesses…”

David, “You’re bluffing.”

Deacon, “Am I?”

David, “You’d never get away with it.”

Deacon, “Sure I would. All they’d have to do is smell the whiskey on you.”

David, “What about the people who saw you coming up here?”

Deacon, “You think they’re going to rat me out? But tell you what. I’m going to be the nice guy I am and let you go.”

David, “You know Sharpe, there’s more than one way to make your family suffer. Your wife is what 19, 20?”

Deacon lost all control next. He punched David in the stomach and then held over the ledge. “You lay, no, you even so much as look at my wife the wrong way and I swear to god I’ll bring you back up on this roof and drop you over this ledge. You so much as speak to my mother-in-law again I’ll drop you over this ledge. This right here Marone, is the beginning of my bad side. Go ahead, call my bluff…I’m begging you to.” He brought David back up and threw him a little ways. “You’re a pathetic excuse for a human being.” He started to leave, but turned back around. “You either leave this family alone, and that means you start by dropping those charges against Thorne, or we can come up here and I’ll finish showing you my bad side. The choice is yours, but either way, you leave this family alone!” Deacon left, leaving David sitting there, who was still feeling the affects of Deacon’s punch. He went back inside. He went back down to the bar. Bridget, Rick, and Amber were still there, and all three went up to him. “Something wrong?”

Rick, “Where’s David?”

Deacon, “Well, hopefully he’s re-evaluating his life and the choices he makes. Don’t worry, I didn’t hurt him…much.”

Bridget, “Deacon…”

Deacon, “What? All I did was have a little talk with him. And I think he’s seeing things from my view point now.”

David was seen coming back inside, he walked past Deacon, Bridget, Rick, and Amber. Amber looked at Deacon. “A talk?”

Deacon, “Yeah, it’s not my fault the guy had too much to drink.”

Amber, “I’m sure it isn’t.”

Deacon, “Why don’t you guys go on home? Show’s over here.”

Bridget, “Alright. I’ll see you at home.” She kissed Deacon and they all left.

Alex looked at Deacon when he went back behind the bar. “Think he saw things your way?”

Deacon, “He knows the alternative if he didn’t.”

Alex, “Sure you know who you’re dealing with here?”

Deacon, “Yeah, I do. I’ve dealt with his kind and worst.”

Alex, “I just don’t want you getting in trouble because of him, he’s not worth it.”

Deacon, “You worry too much about me.”

Alex, “Someone has to.”

NEXT DAY

Thorne answered the door. “Hey.”

Stephanie, “Hello. I was so relieved when I heard that you were released last night. Where’s Brooke?”

Thorne, “Upstairs with Steven. She’s getting him ready for his doctor’s appointment today.” He stepped aside. “Why don’t you two come in. We got plenty of time before we have to leave. Everyone else should be coming.”

Massimo, “You got something planned?”

Thorne, “Yeah, I do. A family cookout to take Brooke’s mind off of everything.”

Stephanie, “What a wonderful idea.”

Ridge, “Come on Doc, we’re going to be late.”

Taylor, “Alright, I’m ready.”

Ridge, “Let’s at least just pretend to get along.”

Taylor, “Don’t worry. Besides, it’s not Brooke I’m mad at.”

Ridge, “Yeah, I know. Thomas, Phoebe, Steffy…let’s go.”

They all left.

Rick, Amber, and Little Eric showed up next. Thorne answered the door. “You guys made it.”

Rick, “You kidding me? I wouldn’t of missed it for the world. Besides, it gets me out of Amber’s cooking.”

Amber smacked Rick on the arm. “Want to go couch shopping later?”

Rick, “Ouch. Sorry, come on, let’s go out to the pool.”

Eric and Linda were next. “Alright, just waiting on seven more to get here.”

Linda, “How’s everyone doing?”

Thorne, “Brooke’s a little better.”

Linda, “I’m so sorry David is doing this to the both of you.”

Thorne, “Hey, stop it. This is not your fault Linda. Don’t be apologizing for him.”

Eric, “Exactly what I keep telling her.”

Linda, “Still, I’m sorry.” She went outside with Rick and Amber.

Thorne, “How’s she doing really?”

Eric, “Nothing I say or do is helping her. She’s going to blame herself.”

Thorne, “I wish she wouldn’t.”

Eric, “I know, so do I.”

Deacon and Bridget showed up next. Thorne let them in. “Hey. Glad you two could make it.”

Deacon, “So are we. Don’t tell me we’re the last ones to arrive.”

Thorne, “No, next to the last.”

Bridget, “Who’s left?”

Thorne, “Ridge, Taylor, and their kids. And here they are. Alright, now everyone’s here.”

Brooke came downstairs. “What’s going on?”

Thorne, “Well, I thought I’d invite everyone over for a cookout.”

Brooke, “Do we have time?”

Thorne, “Yeah, I called and rescheduled Steven’s appointment for this afternoon.”

Brooke, “Oh, okay. Everyone here?”

Thorne, “Yes, and now I’m going to get the grill started.”

Stephanie, “And I’m going to take this little one.” She took Steven.

Brooke answered the door. “What do you want?”

David, “To talk. To you and Thorne.”

Rick, “Thorne, you’d better get back in here.”

Thorne went back inside. “Get the hell off this property.”

David, “Listen, I’ve dropped the charges against you Thorne.”

Linda, “David?”

David, “I’m sorry for what I’ve put you through, all of you.” He left.

Linda followed after him. “David?” David turned around, just looked at her then left.

Eric came outside. “You alright?”

Linda, “Why won’t he reach out to me? Whatever it is he thinks I did to him, all he has to do is just come to me and I’ll make him see I want nothing more than to have him in my life.”

Eric, “Maybe he doesn’t know how.”

Massimo, “Or maybe he doesn’t want to. Because to do otherwise will be to make him see what his grandfather was really like. And David just can’t seem to want to have his fantasy of his grandfather destroyed.”

Eric, “If he’s as bad as you’re saying, why doesn’t David?”

Massimo, “In his own sick, twisted way my father did love David. And that love was the only love David knew, because my father saw to that. If he only would of known the love of his mother…”

Eric, “He would of turned out differently.”

Massimo, “Exactly.”

David, “You get the charges dropped?”

Joseph, “Yes, I did. But why?”

David, “Because that buys me all the time in the world I need. Joey, tell me, you think Bridget will be as easy to conquer as her mother was?”
