This tutorial will teach you how to make the shading needed for those flared skirts and dresses with folds at the bottom. Open up your doll and add a new raster Layer. Name it "Dress Outline". On this layer, we are going to draw the outline of the dress first. As I said in the earlier tutorials, I find this easier to do using the lasso and selecting the area that I want, (Be careful around the hand and hair. Also don't draw the bottom of the dress straight across. It doesn't look natural. Dresses just don't hang that way.) like so:
Choose a lighter color and flood fill your selection. I have chosen purple, but any color will do. Just be sure to use several shades of a color from light to dark.
Add a new layer and take a darker purple, using the air brush set to 2 pixels and go just around the edges with this color.
Then go up to "Effects" and "Blur"..."Gaussian Blur". I set mine to 1.99, but you can use more or less, depending on your preference. Play with it a bit until you see something you like. Now deselect, and add another layer.
