Drawing Faces

Alright, you now have a body for your doll. Let's draw her facial features. To do this, you need to zoom in really close and use your Paintbrush at 1 pixel size..... all the way through this tutorial. And don't forget to save often. First, using the selection tool set on Elipse, you draw an oval for the face and fill it with your base color. You can shape this by erasing pixels here and there if you want to. As with the body tutorial...which hopefully you've already done, I added a new Raster layer over this and I also shaded her face a bit, outlining it with a slightly darker color than her skin. Then I blurred the outline layer slightly, using the Gaussian Blur set to 1.00. Then Merge your layers.

Now that you have the basic shape, let's begin by drawing her eyes. Choose the color you want to outline her eyes. I am using black. Add a new layer. Now with your paintbrush tool, you draw your lines for the eye dot by dot (pixel by pixel) until you get an outline. They do not have to be exact but both eyes should be close in size and shape if possible.

Inside that outline, we will add her eye color and the whites like so. This determines the direction she will be looking. Use a 1 pixel dot for this. If you notice, one of the eyes has two blue colored dots while the other only has one. This is because of her expression. On some dolls, there will only be one dot on each eye and on some, there will be two....on normal size dolls. And I use two different shades of blue on the eye with two dots...a lighter and a darker. It helps to highlight the eyes.

Next, draw in the mouth. Top lip is generally 4 pixels long and the bottom one is two pixels long. (see image.) On this image, I drew the top lip in a darker red, so it's easier for you to see, but you can choose to draw it in whatever color you like, although I have noted that the darker colors look better....sexier, I guess, lol...on most dolls.

The nose is next and the easiest to draw. It's only two dots long and above the lip by a pixel width. A light shade of brown will do for this. Then we go on to the brows. Each brow usually starts right above the inside corner of the eye as seen in the image and gradually goes upward. Each brow is different, according to expression and facial direction. For some reason, this is always the hardest part of drawing a face for me. lol!

One more step and we're finished. I personally like to enhance the eyes a bit once I see the face almost finished, and I do this by adding a little onto the lashes and eye area in black, like so:

And now that we're finally finished, this is the result:

All that needs to be done now is to add it to your final image....the base body that you did earlier.
