Gibson’s Landing

Arriving at Langdale, we head over to Gibsons, the port town famous for its starring role in the long running television series, The Beachcombers. Every Canadian, over the age of 30, remembers the weekly antics of Relic and Nick. It seemed each episode included a cuppa joe at Molly's Reach, a little cafe and pinnacle point for the town. Today, the restaurant is a popular place to meet and munch. The characters may no longer live in this quaint little village but locals are always happy to point out Bruno Gerussi’s past home on the bluff and tell their own stories of the actor’s real life antics.

For an informative tour of town and insider’s look at the local art scene, we head over to the Artworks office where Cindy Buis offers Sunshine Coast Art Tours. Cindy is passionate about local artists and the city’s history.

First stop on the tour is the Gibson’s Landing Art Gallery, a storefront shop representing over 50 artists who own and operate the gallery. Our tour then heads out to the Forst Pottery Gallery. Pat Forst’s studio is open to the public and includes a gallery for visitors to buy Pat’s murals and water garden sculptures as well as other local potters’ creations.

As we amble through the galleries and studios on the tour, I am really excited by the wealth of talent in the area.  Too soon our excursion ends but not before popping into the impressive The Gift of the Eagle Gallery featuring Native Art as well as other BC and Canadian artists. A couple of museums worth a stop on our next tour are the Sunshine Coast Maritime Museum and the Elphinstone Pioneer Museum. Both give a respectful nod to the area’s nautical history and early settlers.
