Sunshine Coast, BCSechelt and AreaHeading north up the coast, we meander through
Sechelt, Halfmoon Bay, Madeira
Park, and Garden Bay. These small coastal communities are proud of their many
secluded beaches, rocky coves, and sheltered bays, nestled within dense forests.
Next trip we plan to spend a few days in the area, choosing a spot as home base,
then heading out on day trips to explore the region’s incredible splendor.
With the next tour in mind, Tim and I check out a couple of resorts in the area. We first spot Lord Jim’s Resort on Ole’s Cove. The resort is first
class, offering all the services and amenities of a posh city hotel. I really
like the new Health and Wellness packages offering massage, yoga, Reiki and
Rolfing treatments, herbal wraps, and meditation sittings. There are hotel rooms
available but I like the lovely log cabins dotting the shoreline, complete with
wooden deck chairs to enjoy the sun sinking into the ocean at day’s end. Travelling onward we next pop into Lowe’s Resort, in Madeira Park on
Pender Harbour.
Lowe’s offers self-contained 1, 2, and 3 bedroom cottages, perfect for a
summer getaway. The new Pender
Harbour golf course is only 6kms away and boat rentals are available at
your doorstep. Since we’re in Pender Harbour, Tim and I head down to the water and meet up with Bryce Christie of Sunshine Coast Tours. Aboard Topline, we glide around the harbour and are treated to Bryce’s bountiful knowledge of the area and local history. Bryce recommends every Sunshine Coast visitor see the nearby Princess Louisa Inlet, a granite walled fjord dotted with exquisite waterfalls and breathtaking scenery. Our enjoyable tour ends too soon but one to three day tours are also available. Sunshine Coast Tours and Malibu Yacht Charters offer longer excursions packaged with stays at the secluded Malibu Club retreat, with up close views of the famed Chatterbox Falls.
