I. INTRODUCTION:

ANAESTHESIA DEPARTMENT:

In the 70’s, when the College of Medicine King Saud University was established. Anaesthesia services was a division within the surgical department. The division at that time only has few numbers specialists, subsequently has been expanded to have over 54 members, 14 + of whom are of consultant grade and seven of whom being faculty members at the College of Medicine.

The academic department was established in March 18, 1997 (9`11.1417G).

There are three objectives of the department namely to provide clinical services, teaching,

and research.

IN 1989, the Department established a 4-year Residency Training Programme known as King Saud Fellowship in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care. A total of 23 residents were graduated and 13 are registered in the programme. The department is participating actively in Saudi and Arab Board Speciality.

The next coming pages give detailed information, which can enlighten the reader about the scope of the Anaesthesia department whether it is clinical, academic or research activities.

I would like to extend thanks and gratitude to the staff members who helped in preparing this manuscript.
