Tai Taki II in Trinity Inlet, Cairns |
"Tai Taki II"
was launched in 1982 at Tauranga, New Zealand. She was built by David and Catherine Symmons
and took approximately 2 years to construct. "Tai Taki II" with David, Catherine and daughter Marcia
as crew, has cruised to the Pacific Islands and Australia's east coast
before being sold to Martin and Susanne McErlain at Brisbane, Queensland in January,1991.
We have lived on board and cruised to various places on Queenslands' Great Barrier Reef,
stopping to work and save money at Urangan (Great Sandy Straits), Hamilton
Island (Whitsunday Islands) and now in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland.
We got another crew member in Urangan when our daughter, Liselotte was born. She is five
years old now and has never lived in a house. Lotta has made lots of friends
with children from other boats wherever we have lived.
We have enjoyed living aboard and
sailing "Tai Taki II" to our various temporary homes on the Queensland coast, and have especially
enjoyed the gaff rig which is so versitile and user friendly. Very few rigs are so forgiving that
you can get the mainsail down or reefed with thirty knots of true wind behind you, without having
to attempt a potentially dangerous roundup with only two crew in rough conditions.
It's also nice to get comments from other people about how nice our boat looks under sail and how
spacious she is below compared to other boats of similar size. I reckon she'll do us.
