Nefret the Kitten and Her Creator

Frisky and Nefret (drawn by Tumblebrutus)

Nefret was the first character I ever really made up (Eclectica was the first name, I used to go by her on Vlado’s board). She was conceived when I got the brilliant idea of making my alias a daughter of Macavity! A few months later I realized that I was not alone in my brilliant idea (hence Proud Children of Macavity). Still, I think Nef’s unique in her own way. She’s one of the few daughters of Macavity who actually like her father and doesn’t have murdered siblings or mother (and for those of you who do...shame on you! Papa would never do such a thing! Bad kitties!) Now, I know Nef looks black and red. She is, but her red patches are supposed to look like Macavity’s. I roleplay Nefret on two different lists. In both she’s just a small kitten and talks in ‘baby talk’. On the cats_rpg list, she lives with the jellicles, but has met her father. She has a brother (or half-brother) named Mischief, and her best friend is Frisky (is there some kind of future there? Turn in next week, folks!). On the Jellicles83 list, she had just met the jellicles when she was kitnapped and brought before her Papa. She just might stay with him too! Nefret also has two namesakes! Ain’t she special! Her first is the ancient Egyptian word nefret, which means ‘beautiful’ (hence Nefertari, Nefertiti, etc). Her second is a character from my fav mystery series which blends two of my favourite things: egyptology and mystery/murder. Nefret used to live in an ancient Egyptian society out in the desert before being rescued by request by the Peabodys. She is very spunky, independent, and speaks her own mind (this takes place at the turn of the century, guys, and that’s why that’s so unusual). In case you’re wondering, these are the Amelia Peabody mysteries by Elizabeth Peters. Go read them!! If you’d like to know more about Nefret’s past, present, and future, you can go read my fanfic, Like Father, Like Daughter?

'Nefret' before her 9th grade formal

Okay, let’s see…’Ello, my name is Vanessa and I am my cat’s human. Her name is Stripes and she’s a beautiful, loving tiger cat (or at least that’s what someone told me) who likes to lounge in my lap while I sit here and type. I’m 15 and go to a very groovy accelerated school in Florida where I’m a sophomore. I first saw Cats on July 14, 1998 (and yes, I pulled that from memory). Now, I don’t normally go for the there’s-no-plot-line musicals (see below list of fav musicals), but the dancing and costumes of Cats is something else! Now, I am a big musical theatre fan, and if I have the cd, I know the words to pretty much every song. My musical universe is dominated by my Big Three: The Phantom of the Opera, Jekyll & Hyde, and Les Miserables. There’s more after that, but I would take waaaaayyyy too much space to list them (so I’ll make a list elsewhere someday). Tying into my interest in musical theatre is my love of music. I’ve been taking singing lessons for 2 years now and have been playing the flute and bass guitar for 4 years. My dream is to be on Broadway (my ultimate pretty-much-never-attainable dream is to play Christine *g*). As you might be able to tell, I also love writing. I’ve been writing since 2nd grade. You can read all my stories on the net at Stories Short and Tall. I am always writing, and am currently working on three different stories and typing up a fourth. I also love sharks, the greatest creatures in all existence! "Gorgeous!" as Steve Irwin says. What? You’ve never seen The Crocodile Hunter? Away with ye, and watch this show (which is almost my fav). You can find out about the rest of my lil’ quirks at my homepage, My Favourite Things. A bientot!
