All alumni are being challenged to participate and help send future Generals to college. All donations are in a saving account (only accessible by two signatures) and only the interest can be used for scholarships. I received a Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Bluefield State College in 1971 and a Master's from Marshall University in 1985. I have been married to James Shrader from Bramwell since 1965. I have taught at Montcalm Elementary School since 1985 as a Title I Reading teacher. We have one son, Russell (Rusty) who currently lives in Princeton and works for Concord College as an academic coordinator for the only Math & Science Upward Bound Program in the state of West Virginia.

I Married Michael Underwood in 1969. I have 2 sons; Anthony 28 and Jason 20.I have worked in the child nutrition dept. for the Mercer co. Board of Education at Bluewell Elementary for the last 10 years as head cook.
Both of my children graduated from MHS and went on to college. Tony graduated from WVU, and is a counselor for Concord College. Jason is attending Concord.

I went to Bluefield State College for a couple of years, married a Michigan boy and moved to Michigan. Divorced after 10 years and remarried again in 1990 to Jim Karry. (no kidding.) Well, the name (if not the spelling) is the same and he does have a great sense of humor! I have three stepdaughters, 19, 21 and 22. Finished my undergraduate degree in Michigan as well as my MBA and have been employed for the last 13 years at a manufacturing company as VP of Finance.
Just turned 50 (oh my God) and my family (including several from W. Va.) and friends surprised me with a party........and I do mean surprised. They even put together a video of pictures with music about my life. There were some wonderful messages from my classmates from Montcalm and also from two very special teachers.
I can't be 50 years old because it was just yesterday that I was going to school with all those wonderful kids that I graduated with in 1969. I have been very blessed, but it is still hard to beat those years at Montcalm High when life seemed a little more simple and I had the whole world ahead of me.
Now what about the rest of the 1969 graduates? Where are you and what are you doing now?

When I was in the ninth grade our Mother was stricken with cancer. In nineteen seventy at seventeen I decided to leave school and devote full time to here needs. I returned to school and graduated from Concord College in 1996 with a Bachelor of Social Work. I attended College full-time while managing a local apartment complex, where I worked for nine years. After graduating from Concord my first Social Work Job was Child Protective Services with Tazewell County. After three years of driving back and forth I accepted employment as a Probation Officer in Mercer county. I am divorced with a thirteen year old son and a seventeen year old daughter (both children to be proud of) Of course I am a little biased .

I live in Wisconsin and love to hear news from my classmates.
Due to a partial diability, I find myself training for a new career. I am studying to be a Computer Information Systems - Programmer/ Analyst. Summer 2004, I was chosen as one of 14 students nationwide (new graduates and returning students like myself) to receive lucrative Microsoft-Sponsored Information Technology internships. We spent 3 months working in Federal computer departments located in Washington, D. C.
Some of the agencies included: The Department of Transportation (FAA and FHWA), The Printing Office, National Science Foundation, Patent Office and Homeland Security. 3 students may be returning for IT careers in Washington as a result of the internships.
While in DC I couldn't pass up the chance to drop in on my brother Marvin in Hinton and meet up with Sharian Annette (Ruble) Sangid. We had lost touch for over 20 years until she found me through this alumni page.

We lived in Norfolk, Virginia for almost three years and missed these hills too much. We moved back to Montcalm almost 13 years ago, soon after Sarah was born. Since our return, Rebekah and Jacob were born. I still work as a welder.

After graduating from Montcalm High School I went on to Bluefield State College and finished a degree in Electrical Engineering. After college I moved to Cary, NC and married a gal from Kansas (Sheryl Huffman). We both work in RTP and enjoy travel and lots of outdoor related activity. Although I have been away from WV since 1985, I still consider WV my home and love to camp,hike,bike and kayak there.

I often think of my classmates and wonder how they are doing. I was the Captain of the first women's basketball team to ever make it to the State Championships where we took 2nd place. That wasn't too bad considering that our tallest player was only 5'6" and Parkersburg Catholic had an All American who was 6'2" and averaged 36 points per game. Women's basketball did not start at Montcalm until 1975-1976 so that was pretty quick progress. The first women's basketball coach was Stephanie Reid. I graduated from Concord College with a B.A. in Commercial Art and Advertising and have worked in public relations for nearly 20 years. I am currently working as a Public Information Officer for Newport News Fire Department, the 65th busiest fire department in the United States. I love to paint in my spare time and it is also a good side job since I have sold a few pieces. I would love to hear from some of my old friends!

I attended Concord College but didn't graduate. I have always dreamed of going back, but Time marches on and I don't see college anywhere in my future at the moment.
I married Darryl Shrader from Matoaka in 1983 and we have one daughter named Angela. She will be in 8th grade this year at Lashmeet/Matoaka Elementary.
I lived in the Matoaka/Lake Shawnee are for the past 18 years. It seems as if most of our graduating class left the area, since I see so few of us anymore.
I am the manager of Joann Fabrics in Bluefield,Va and have been there for 10 years. My husband owns a Used Car Lot in the Lake Shawnee area.

My name is Barb Lyons, formally know as Barb Boyles. I attended Montcalm until ninth grade when I moved to Michigan. I graduated from Grand Haven High in Michigan in 1981. Today I am in accounting. I am married to Dan Lyons and have three kids: Danielle 18 who just graduated #10 in her class and is on her way to Western Michigan University in the fall; Charles 15 and Kevin 14. I graduated from Bluefield State in '87 and also got married in '87. I married Jerry Nunn from Bluefield, WV. We have been happily married for 13 years. Jerry works for N&S railroad and I am a stay at home mom. We have twins...Kenneth Crockett and Andrea Lea that are 11 and Evan Christopher that is 6. We also keep foster children, 1 of which we are adopting. She came to us when she was 2 weeks old and she will be 2 in Oct. We usually have 6 children, but have had as many as 8 living here. I was stationed at Scott AFB, IL from 1983 through 1991 where I was married for 4 years then divorced. I spent most of my time-off bass fishing in tournaments and was the Illinois Military Bass Angler's Association State Champion in 1989. In October 1991, I went to Howard AFB, Panama and spent 6 years there in the tropical paradise of Central America where I met my lovely wife Marta and we have been happily married for 9 years. The fishing was incredible in Panama, so guess what I did on my time-off? I left Panama in November 1997 and got stationed here at Keesler AFB, Biloxi Mississippi. I am a Communications Project Manager and can retire at any time, however I plan to stay in until February, 2005. We bought a home here in Biloxi and my wife has a good job, so this is where we plan to stay. I still do some fishing, but not near as much as I used to. The fishing in Panama spoiled me and now nothing can compare! I spend most of my time-off riding motorcycles. I've owned and ridden nearly every brand from Harleys to Hondas. I graduated with an AS degree from Bluefield State College and worked at Princeton Community Hospital for nine years. I taught adult evening classes in Medical Terminology at the Mercer Co. Vocational Tech. Center for 4 years. One of my greatest goals was to have a "successful career" until the day I held this little baby in my arms who changed my entire outlook on life. So, presently, I am enjoying my most challenging and fulfilling job of all...raising my two daughters - Lauren, age 7 and Lindsey, 10 months! My husband Randy earned a BA degree in 1991, and finished his BS in Education in '93 and works as a Child Care Counselor for Mountain Heart Child Care Services. In addition, he owns Picture This Wedding Photography, which I enjoy helping him run from our home. We attend Deliverance Temple Church in Brushfork, WV...and yes, I am still singing. Somehow, they let me join the choir there (maybe it's because my sister is choir director? ... 'ya gotta have contacts). My 7 yr. old is singing now also. I have directed our Vacation Bible School program there for 11 years, and somehow 180 screaming kids in one room has become the highlight of my summers! God has richly blessed us and our family!

For the next 4 years we lived in Ft Polk Louisiana. I was sent to Panama during the Invasion, but got the pie job of training the NG in Texas for Desert Storm.(Whew) We came back to WV again in 92. Now I work for BEI Refueling, gassin up locomotives out of a tractor-trailer.(And they told me my military training wouldn't amount to anything)

After graduating I went to West Virginia Institute of Technology and received a degree in Civil Engineering. I Met and married the man of my dreams, Duane Mann. He is from North Carolina, so that is where we settled for 9 years. While there I went to North Carolina State University and received my Masters Degree in Structural Engineering. Then I went to work designing bridges. Missing the mountains terribly, last year Duane and I moved to Blacksburg, VA. I work at Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern, Inc. and absolutely love being back in the mountains. No children, probably because we love riding our Harleys too much, and our two dogs, Hannah and Bubba, keep us very busy.

I am now an Ordained Minister with the Church of God and have received my Master of Divinity degree. I currently am employed at the Seminary as Executive Assistant to the Dean of Ministries and DMin Director and am also filling an Assistant Pastor position at the New Covenant Church of God in Cleveland. I love the Cleveland area (located 30 miles north of Chattanooga)...it is almost as good as home! But I will always love the southern West Virginia area...there truly is no place like home! Well, much has happened since June 1991. I went to Concord College and received my B.A. in Communications. Then I moved to Boston, MA and attended Emerson College and received my Master's in Communications in 1997. Since then, I have been traveling and experiencing many new and interesting things. I stayed in Boston for a few months after graduating, then I traveled across the U.S. for the summer by car. I hiked through Yosemite National Park for 3 days straight... Lots of fun! Then, I moved to North Carolina for a few months, only to find myself back in West Virginia at Marshall University for a semester. I moved up with Angie Vaughan and taught a couple public speaking courses at Marshall. Next, I moved back up to Boston and worked for a public relations office. I really missed the mountains, so I moved up to Vermont after I spent a summer traveling in Alaska. I spent a year and a half in Vermont teaching at various places. And, now I'm in San Francisco teaching at a learning center for children with learning processing problems like dyslexia. I love sunny California so far! Although, I do miss West Virginia dearly and hope to one day live closer to home. Oh yeah, I'm still single with no children.

I didn't graduate at Montcalm but all of my best friends stayed with me. I had to move my junior year to Princeton where I graduated with 257 people I hardly knew. Since I graduated I have been married and divorced, but brought a beautiful baby named Tanner Matthew Hess out of it. I currently work for Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center as a Residential Aide. I have worked there for 5 years now assisting mentally ill and mentally disabled adults to try to reach the highest levels of being independant that their disabilities will allow. It is a challenging and sometimes diffiult job, but, I really enjoy feeling like I have positively affected their standards of living. Like I was saying before, I have a rotten little boy that is 3 and 1/2 now. He is the love of my life and has taught me many things, patience being the most important. I am engaged to be married again, hopefully, this will work out better than the last! When I am not working, I spend most of my time with my son, my nephew and my niece ,which I am crazy about. I also like to kick back and listen to my brother's cd and check out the band's website on the net. ( I am also very proud of him, he's making his dreams come true). I think alot about school and the fun I had and wish sometimes that those days were here again but, I wouldn't change what I have now for anything. I would love to hear from my classmates. I met my husband in August of 2000 and was married in December of 2000. I worked at Princeton Community Hospital for 3 years. In October of 2002 my husband and I moved to Manassas,Va where I currently reside. We have no children so far but are hoping to start a family soon. I miss the mountains of West Virginia and hopefully one day will return to stay. I do come to visit my family often and enjoy the time I spend there. Since I left school my life has not exactly how I thought it would be. I had to quit college to take care of my father when he found out he was diabetic. But I did not give up on my hopes to further my education, soon I was on my way to Job Corps. I graduated job corps with a degree as an invoice control clerk. Well, I'm not sure if anyone here will remember me or not, but I used to be Gennie Bailey. You know, the little fat girl no-one liked lol. You know, the one who "accidentally" sprayed pepper spray and had the whole school evacuated that cold day in December...I swear...I thought it was perfume! Well, how things have changed! :0) Since graduating from high school I've moved to the beautiful ocean city of Savannah Georgia where I began work as a radio disk jockey. There I met my husband, Jason. We have a 3 year old son Matthew, who is the sweetest baby ever!
I try to visit home once a year and keep in touch with my friends Anne Raisovich, Crystal Thomason and Heather Compton (Heather..call me!). I'd love to hear from "most" of my fellow Class of '96'ers.
