The Truth about Miss Elizabeth

Elizabeth Hulette, known to the world of pro wrestling fans as the lovely "Miss Elizabeth," died early on a Thursday morning of May 1, 2003 after being rushed to the hospital from an Atlanta area home she shared with wrestler and longtime boyfriend Lex Luger.

Rescue workers had responded to a 5:30 a.m. 911 call concerning a "sick woman" at Luger's Marietta, GA., town home. According to police reports, Elizabeth, 42, was unresponsive, and was transported to Kennestone Hospital where she later died. there were no immediate signs of foul play.

Luger, 44 (Now 48) whose real name is Larry Pfohl, was arrested late Thursday afternoon after authorities found a controlled substance in his home during their investigation. He is not, however, being held in connection with Miss. Elizabeth's death.

Authorities had responded to a domestic disturbance call at the residence on Easter Sunday, a month before the tragedy during which Luger was arrested for allegedly beating Elizabeth, according to a police report. Elizabeth, who sported a black eye when she was found by police, claimed at the time that she had slipped while playing with the family dog.

Luger was out on a $2,500 bond in connection with that incident when he was re-arrested a month later on the illegal substance charge during the investigation of her death. He was cited with violation of the state's controlled substance act and was taken to Cobb County Jail.

Miss. Elizabeth, a former Miss Kentucky and a University of Kentucky graduate, met future husband "Macho Man" Randy Savage during the early 1980's while both were working for the Lexington, KY.-based International Championship Wrestling (IWC) promotion run by Savage's father, Angelo Poffo. The two joined the World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment) in 1985 and became one of the world's most Famous couples. With "Miss Elizabeth" serving as Savage's valet and manager, the two turned their real-life marriage into an on-air storyline which the wrestling audience went wild.
The First Lady of Wrestling, took part in one of televised wrestling magical moments when she exchanged vows with Savage in a highly publicized ceremony at the 1991 Summer Slam pay-per-view. In reality, the two already had been married for several years, and by this time their real-life union was falling apart. The Two ended there 8 year marriage in 1992.

During her 7 year run in the WWE, she had managed the likes of Macho Man, Hulk Hogan, Jim Duggan, & Dusty Rhodes and had a two year feud with the Sensational Sherri

After taking a break from the wrestling business, Miss Elizabeth joined the Atlanta-based now defunct World Championship Wrestling (WCW) during the mid-1990's. The WWE's Rival .

During her 4 year run with WCW, she again has managed Macho Man, Hulk Hogan, Sting, she was a member of the Two most recognized factions in the world of wrestling, the four Horsmen and the NWO (New World Order), and than went on to manage her real life boyfriend Lex Luger.

During WCW last years in 2000..Vince Russo started a Faction of the New Blood that owned Miss Elizabeth's Contract and against her will made her a Member and would treat her like a slave and have Security escort her to anywhere Vince Russo would put her.

From the Looks of it. In real Life, Miss. Elizabeth looked very stressful as she basically carried WCW on her Shoulders during the rating wars to keep WCW Alive. There was something new for Miss Elizabeth each and every week such as escaping the New Blood, Attacking any member with a baseball bat, wrestling against Daffney, Rhonda Sing, & Madusa. and embarassing Vince Russo at any cost.
She eventually was released later in the year in 2000

The case of her death started being treated as a homicide but in reality at that time no one knew if this was a homicide, suicide, or even natural causes
one of the reports reported that the Wrestling celebrity Miss Elizabeth had been mixing vodka and painkillers before she sat down to eat, started gurgling and then died, according to police reports.
Luger later told police that Elizabeth drank about two glasses of vodka and took some medication for her back pain, according to the police report.
While she was sitting on a couch eating a plate of food, he said, she started choking. He picked up some napkins and tried to remove whatever food was in her mouth. Then he started shaking her, hoping the food would come up, but she still wasn't breathing, the report said.

By the time the emergency crews arrived, five minutes after the call came in, Elizabeth's skin had turned purplish. She was pronounced dead at WellStar Kennestone Hospital.
Hours after the incident, investigators investigated through the three-story townhouse and said they discovered more than 1,000 illegal pills. Luger was charged with 13 counts of felony drug possession. Among the drugs were steroids and other bodybuilding drugs, as well as pain medication and anxiety drugs, authorities said.
Cobb County police said preliminary autopsy findings showed no sign of foul play. Police do not suspect Luger in the death of his girlfriend, said spokesman Captain. Brody Staud.

An autopsy may be able to determine whether Lizz died of choking on food, of some deadly mix of alcohol or drugs -- of some combination of the two factors -- or even another cause, said Dr. Julie Jervis, a forensic pathologist at Kaplan College in Iowa. She described a common scenario called "cafe coronary," in which people who are drinking alcohol and eating lose their eating coordination, choke on food and die of asphyxiation.
Then again, she said, if some food blocking her airway became dislodged at some point, the autopsy might not be able to determine the exact cause of death, and the final cause could be listed as "undetermined."

A fatal of mix of pills and alcohol caused the untimely and accidental May 1st death of the wrestling icon “Miss Elizabeth,” according to the final autopsy results released Thursday. At the time of her death, 42-year-old Elizabeth Hulette had a blood alcohol level of 0.29 and a mix of painkillers, nausea medication and tranquilizers in her system, said Mark Bishop, operations manager of the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office.

In Georgia, drivers operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or above are considered impaired.
Bishop said Miss. Elizabeth death has been ruled accidental, due to “acute toxicity,” or an overdose. He said there is nothing to indicate suicide or foul play.

Here are A few of the top names in the sport of Pro Wrestling have to say about the Gorgeous Miss Elizabeth.

Miss. Elizabeth's ex-husband Macho Man Randy Savage and also his former Valet/Manager in both WWE & WCW issued the following statement on MachoMan.com:
"I am deeply saddened by this news, and our thoughts and prayers are with Elizabeth's family."

The WWE who she had been a big part of in 1985 to 1992 had this to say
We are saddened to hear of the death of Elizabeth Hulette. Miss Hulette played the very popular character of Miss Elizabeth in WWE from 1985 to 1992. She finished her career at WCW, from Jan. 1996 through Aug. 2000. We at WWE send our sincere condolences to Miss Hulette's family.

Not only was this mention on the WWE Web site, but they paid tribute to her in there monthly magazine issue and did a follow up on the big news story of her situation with Lex Luger on Confidential, Raw, & Smack-down

and here is a few things that came out of the story with comments from Hulk Hogan who Macho Man until this day suspects an affair between the two from when they were married and Vince McMahon Her boss of 7 years in the WWE.......

And under that is the whole conversation between the 911 call and Lex Luger

Hulk Hogan: "I really don't know what made Miss Elizabeth happy. Lot of people may think that being in the business she'd seem happy, but I don't know if that's true. I don't know if she ever really found it, because she was always…the passenger. When I was around she was never the driver.

Vince McMahon: "When Elizabeth left here, I dare say life probably changed for her. And I don't know any of the particulars other than, when she was here, there was a very caring environment, you know, we all look out for each other and it's one big family. When she went to WCW, as it was known then, there wasn't the same family. There wasn't the same caring. And she probably was looked differently upon than she was when she was here, she was probably looked at as a commodity like anything else. I'm not saying that's horrible, but it was just a different environment altogether. And I guess life didn't turn out too well."

The 911 Call

LL: "She's laying on the floor. I tried to pick her up…I tried to…
911: "Okay, what I want you to do. I want you to go over and see if she's breathing."
LL: "I can't tell. Please send somebody here who knows what they're doing'"
911: " I UNDERSTAND that Sir, I have somebody on the way but if she's not breathing, you need to help her breathe. You need to find out whether or not she's breathing. Go over to her…roll her…put her…"
LL: "(unknown)"
911: 'Sir…"
LL: "…Oh my God. Please send somebody…"
911: "Listen to me, you have got to help her. Lay down…"
LL: "I'm trying. I've been trying to help her."
911: "Lay down and check to see if she's breathing, look at her chest, see if it's rising."
LL: "Doesn't look like it is. I'm scared to death."

The following was posted on Madusa's Official web Site: who Miss Elizabeth and Madusa had a short lived feud in WCW

I first want to start off by saying My prayers and condolences go out to Liz's Mother and brother. I Have known Liz for a long time thanks to the Pro wrestling biz that is one good thing that does happen in the biz that you meet wonderful people and some you just stay closer with, like Miss Elizabeth. Liz and I have shared some wonderful times, laughing, crying, traveling and just plain being "girl friends". Liz has truly been an inspiration to every woman in this sport and started a path for the women of today. Her beauty is priceless, her voice I can still hear in my head. I cried and I cried hard and I am angry. I feel that when tragic strikes our emotions want to strike back for the fear of not knowing what or how it happened, usually that is the case...I can tell you this the reason for her death will not go unnoticed and I truly believe "The reason of why it happened will burn in hell!!" We miss you Liz.....

Bret Hart who Elizabeth worked with in both WWE & WCW for many years had the following to say

Little angel of wrestling

Miss Elizabeth was one of the most genuine ladies the business ever saw By Bret Hart

When my kids were young and I brought them on the road with me, Liz would often graciously offer to watch them while I had to work.
When my oldest daughter, Jade, now 20, was still in single digits, she idolized Liz and enjoyed getting all dolled up like her. One thing that shouldn't be overlooked about Liz is that when the wrestling business slid into sleaze in the late '90's, she remained a lady..

She was more than deserving of the moniker First Lady of Wrestling -- which, in no small irony, was also the title given to my mother by fans and wrestlers alike..
Both my mother and Miss Elizabeth somehow managed to stay true to themselves, civilized and polished, sharp and articulate, even though they were constantly surrounded by ruffians and chaos..
I don't recall ever seeing Liz in a bad mood..
She was always courteous and polite and never ever developed a trace of a prima- donna attitude. She never walked around with her nose in the air thinking she was bigger than the wrestlers, even though for a time she was, unlike most of the women who came up after her..
When I arrived in WCW in December of 1997, I was pleasantly surprised to find Liz there, managing Lex Luger..
One of my last conversations with her was in the spring of 1999, shortly after my brother Owen died..
She sensed my heartache as she gently told me after watching me for all these years, she just wanted to thank me -- for what, I wasn't sure..
But she went on to say I was her favorite and, although she didn't pretend to be an expert, she said she'd seen with her own eyes how hard I'd worked -- for everybody in the dressing room -- year after year..
She said she wanted me to know how truly sorry she was things had turned out so dark for me at the end and I deserved so much better..
She gave me a sincere hug and, over the years, her kind praise has meant so much more to me than she will ever know..
Miss Elizabeth was my friend..
I loved her dearly and will miss her dearly. I only wish I'd have told her how very much she meant to me, too.. All those wrestlers in heaven will have to part and make way for the little angel of wrestling.

Former WWE Women's Champion Leilani Kai who worked with Miss Elizabeth in the WWE in the 1980's comment with Insane Wrestling Plan about Elizabeth

Liz was a nice lady and we used to go shopping in the late 80's in New York before going to a show. Randy must be crushed they were always close. she will be missed by many she was close too. I know she's looking down with a smile from heaven.

(O: love you liz,
leilani

Lanny Poffo was her real life brother in Law from 1984 to 1992 and both worked in the WWE from 1985 to 1992 had this to say with Insane Plan

Miss Elizabeth was a beautiful woman, inside and out. She will always be remembered fondly by me and every member of my family. She was too good of a person to die in such a way.
Lanny Poffo

Daffney worked with Miss Elizabeth in WCW in 1999- 2000 and was Miss Elizabeth first opponent in her very first wrestling match had this to say with Insane Plan
Miss Elizabeth was a legend. I think she deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. She was such a genuinely kind person and is terribly missed...
Daff

Maestro worked with Miss. Elizabeth in the WCW from 1999-2000

"I was deeply saddened by the passing of Miss Elizabeth. In and out of the ring, she displayed such class and elegance. One of the first female divas to help pave the way for many female wrestling personalities today.
"I remember one time at a WCW event, some of my family stopped by to see me at a Nitro TV taping. Elizabeth came out of her dressing room, curlers in her hair and all, and took time to speak with my family until I came out to see them.
"It really made their day, and it just was another example of what a kind soul she was. Hearing about her through Randy Savage, I can see why he talked so highly of her. She would even laugh with me when Lex Luger was kind of irritated when WCW would have him sit in the crowd at some of the Nitro's.

Vince Russo was the last person she worked with in a wrestling storyline in WCW in 2000, when he "OWNED" her
It’s common knowledge to those that knew, but “Miss" Elizabeth, as she always was to me, wasn't a big fan of mine. We had some differences when it came to business, and that’s just part of the territory. Even though I'm sure Liz never knew it—I was a big fan of hers. From that one “unforgettable” spot at Summer Slam at MSG back in the 80’s I was hooked. She was a class act—and the ultimate “Diva” before “Diva” was in.
But this open letter isn't a tribute to Liz. Yes, I'm deeply sorry that I never took the time to tell her that she had such a big influence on me in the business—but there’s nothing I can do about that now. But maybe—there’s something I can do for somebody else in the future.

The Ultimate Warrior worked with Miss Elizabeth in WWE from 1988 to 1992, and WCW in 1998 showed emotion dicussing her death with the following
Elizabeth was at WCW in 1998 when I was there. I found out enough to know this: The best parts of her life were when she was with Randy and her regret that was no more would never leave her. Hogan and his wife (and McMahon) can be thanked, and cursed, for that; planting ideas in her head that she was missing out on some magnificent untamed life adventure.

The Negative feed back relating to this situation is as followed .....

Miss Elizabeth's mom has been reported to be blaming her daughter's death on the wrestling industry. She apparently has been trying to keep the information on Elizabeth's funeral a secret in order to have no wrestlers attend the services and has not accepted any letters or flowers from anyone involved in the wrestling industry.

The TV Series Celebrity Justice which shares reports of celebrity lawsuits and celebrity's deaths did the story of Miss Elizabeth & Lex Luger's Situation and Addressed Miss Elizabeth's as the first Lady Of Wrestling, according to an on line interview with Missy Hyatt, she was very upset when she watched the show when they addressed Elizabeth as the first lady of wrestling, because she feels that she (Missy Hyatt) is the first lady of wrestling.

This piece I was very PISSED off about was after the death of Miss Elizabeth, XPW (Xtreme Pro Wrestling) Owned By Rob Black which the Promotion XPW was pretty much up there in the ranks of ECW when ECW was ran to the ground.

A Skit in the ring with Lizzy Borden a Porn Star & XPW Valet acted as if she is Miss Elizabeth when Mr. 80's Dynamite D came down to the ring dressed as the macho man treating her badly just like the real macho man did in there relationship in the WWE storyline in the 1980's and according to a few workers, in real life as well. Than a wrestler ran down to make the save to Lizzy and than cut a promo talking to the fans and made some sort of comment about the drugs in wrestling which applied to Miss Elizabeth which caused the fans to go wild.
I thought that was uncalled for. of course later in the same year XPW faced a lot of controversy themselves and closed it's doors

about a year after her Death Lex Luger Worked for TNA and it was rumored TNA was in talks with Macho Man about coming to the company and feud with Luger as macho man would blame Elizabeth's death at Luger and would get revenge

Renee is a Elizabeth Fan from the start and here is her thoughts
On May 1, 2003, I heard the most shocking news I thought I would never hear. Miss Elizabeth the true first lady of wrestling had passed away at the young age of 42.

I have been a big fan of hers since 1985 when she entered the WWE (F) I was 7 years old at the time. I was drawn to her for her beauty, kindness, and just the quiet demanor she presented herself in. I followed her career up until her death, and when I heard Lex Luger was involved in some way I wasn't surprised. I don't want to upset any of Luger's fans, but I have never been a fan of his. I always thought Elizabeth could do a whole lot better than him, and then when I heard their had been reports of abuse in their relationship, it really upset me that anyone could abuse such a wonderful human being as Elizabeth. I don't care the manner in which she died, that does not change my opinion of her, I still love her and I think of her every day and it is such a shame she is no longer with us. She done so much for all the females in this sport and she deserves so much more credit than what she gets. I just hope everyone sees what a true lady she really was. I will never forget her.

My Thoughts

I remember Sitting on my Aunt's Bed talking to my aunt and watching the Pittsburgh News at the same time and when I turn my attention to the TV I saw Miss Elizabeth's Picture on my Local News and by that time it was too late to watch what happened, so the first thing I did was run to the computer and check it on line and it was too early for the reports to be published on line but I did know enough from watching a little bit of the news after seeing her picture from her WWF days when they mention that she had passed away. But the death alone was unknown. and I was so shocked that the first thing I did was write a poem from the top of my head and later I build a tribute to her on my site and my guest Book was flooded with hard-core Elizabeth fans sharing there memories of how they felt about her death.

I have done everything in my research from studding the latest of her death and the autopsy report and chatting with hard-core Elizabeth Fans, and trying to put the pieces to the puzzle of how her death came about.
And I tried so hard to put the facts together and it still does not add up in my book, as much as I have tried to make sense out of the situation, I just can't after watching the WWE Confidential story of Miss. Elizabeth when they aired the 911 call Lex Luger Made. this might cause some controversy for what I am about to say but I have a right to speak my mind and express my opinion, I feel that Lex Luger had something to do with her death and I think it's wrong not to cover all angels of this story including Lex Luger story of how this happened.

Judging by listing to the 911 call Luger made, to me all he did was spend his time arguing with the operator and not following her instructions to save her life that she was trying to do. And by the time the paramedics arrived it was too late. not to mention Easter Sunday a month before the tragedy when he was arrested for hitting her.
even though what I am about to list below are just rumors, I am going to share this info with you anyway,

The TNA which started in 2002 was interested in bringing Miss Elizabeth to there roster but was not interested in Lex Luger at the time

XWF a new promotion at the time in 2001 that was run by Rowdy Piper, Sable, & Jimmy Hart also made a deal for Miss Elizabeth to come in as a valet for the promotion but it never happened and nothing was mention if Lex Luger was asked to come and work for them

And the WWA a promotion that started in 2001 based out in Europe also wanted miss Elizabeth but the deal never was finalized and no reason why to this day.

Even Though these are all rumors, what if all of them are true and Lex Luger was jealous of Elizabeth popularity in the Biz. which brings the point of why he treats her bad
However, after Her death Lex Luger got a Call from TNA to come work for them which probably in my opinion wanted him to work there because of all the headlines he has made after her death and maybe thought he could bring in some TV Ratings. And TNA got a lot of negative feedback from Fans who were against Luger to work for the company because of her death and TNA released an official statement regarding Lex Luger and to sum it all up the company basically said he deserves a sec. Chance.

I for one am not going to sit here and blame the whole thing on Luger but my complaint is that they did not investigate the whole situation to cover all the corners, I mean the 911 call in my opinion was disturbing and that alone should have been a hint that there is a possibility that it was not an accidental death.

The First Lady of Wrestling Miss Elizabeth will always be a true woman with Class who always drew the line of how women are presented in wrestling today. I feel that if it was not because of Miss Elizabeth, Women or Divas such as Sable, Terri Runnels, Tammy Lynn, Stacy Kiebler, Miss Jacky, Torrie Wilson, & Dawn Marie would not have a job in Wrestling today.

The gorgeous Lady Miss. Elizabeth Tragedy will always remain a mystery which is very sad to know that either way no one will know the truth to why her life was taken away from her

Poem written by John Mikels

THE FIRST TRUE LADY OF WRESTLING

May 1, 2003

Miss. Elizabeth is well Respected, full of honor and is the first true lady of wrestling
with class, she has touched so many
Angel on earth and now an angel in Heaven
without a doubt she is an angel in our harts
Many Years we have watched her grace the sport of professional wrestling from an innocent Lady a Ringside to a legend in the History of Sports Entertainment
GOD is lucky to have an angel likes Elizabeth by his Side
but it is sad to see her leave our side
Never will be forgotten but we will miss her 4-EVER Thank you for all the Memories We'll Cherish Them 4 EVER
