Lots 61-70


                                                               Lot 61   (also seen on main page)
Lot 61 -- Diana wore this Victor Edelstein dress for a formal portrait(both alone and with Charles)in 1991. Its silk-velvet, very simple, with a tulip shaped hemline on the skirt.
(Its also the gown wore for a photo shoot as seen on our homepage. The 3rd pic is an artist rendition of Diana in this gown.  Sold for $24,150
 
                              Lot 62
Lot 62-- Diana wore this gown to the premiere of Far And Away in 1992. Its yellow and blue silk. Sold for $33,350.
 
 
       Lot63
Lot 63--An absolutely breathtaking  2-piece emsemble. A long  soft velvet tailcoat in burgundy Renaud silk velvet  offset with white embroidered flowers over a full length bustier style dress. The coloring of Catherine Walker's sumptous deign was influenced by the colouring of Imperial Russian Court dress. Originally Catherine presented the coat over an ivory gown but Diana suggested all burgundy would look more fluid for its first public outing in 1990.. It fetched $26,450 at the auction.

Diana wore it to Korea in 1992.
Diana chose this again in  Feb 7, 1992 to wear for the Steel Magnolias film premiere.

Lot 64--  Diana wore this on a visit to Saudi Arabia. Its cream silk embroidered with gold falcons on ther bodice.  Its available in miniature on a Franklin Mint Porcelain Diana doll. Catherine Walker design sold for $26,450.

Lot 65 --Catherine Walker designed this Ivory romain satin gown  in 1991 for Diana. Its adorned with pink sequins which create an interesting gold effect..Diana wore it to Brazil for an official dinner, April 1991 with the Queen Mary tiara Also in September,  1991 it was Diana's choice for the film Stepping Out.  She was photographed in it beside the film's star, Liza Minnelli.  It was sold for 26,450 to Maureen Rorech and currently on loan to Kensington palace.
 
 Lot 66                                                                                                        Lot 67 (not worn in public)
 

Lot 66 --Diana wore this Catherine Walker gown to Versailles in 1994. This was her first foreign engagament after reemerging to public life. It's a simple design but the neckline is adorned with black bugle beads. This style is indicative of the sophisticated gowns Diana adopted throughout the 90's.
This was another of the dresses Diana wore for the Vanity fair shoot, July 1997 issue and was sold for 57,500  Owned by Maureen Rorech. -To view details of the gown, click on photos.
 

Lot 67 -This link shows you back view. This silk gown with embroidered top was designed by Bruce Oldfield. Diana wore it to Saudi Arabia in 1989. then again at Balmoral for a private affair.  Mr. Robert Hurtig of Boston and MS Linda Sarna of Los Angeles share  owneship of the gown.

Lot 68 --$25,300 was the winning bid on this Japanese designed dress by YUKI. Diana cleverly wore it on a trip to that country in 1986, but it is the only time Diana wore one of his designs. It is pleated with a  beaded yolk. She wore a striking headband of sapphires
at that time (seen on the links page) and on another occasion (above) no headband. The suite of jewels, a wedding gift from the Crown Princes of Saudi Arabia, consisted of earrings, ring , bracelet and a watch. It was valued at 600,000 pounds.
Lot 69--Diana modeled a new gown for the trip to Nigeria at a banquet in her and Charles honor in March 1990 .

Diana also wore it to  the English National Ballet Ball when she danced with director Ivan Nagy in 1990.

Made of silk chiffon, with a  draped bodice, this Walker design, starts at the hips and ends in a halter neck. Its an interesting mixture of green and purple on white.  $25,300. Originally, Diana's friend Liz Tiberus bought this gown at the auction. AS many of you know, she has since passed on. It is currently owned by the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, They feature this and lot 59 in a small booklet they sell. "Acquisitions of the 1990s" . It is NOT on display there.

Lot 70--    Also Walker, Diana wore this to a reception in 1992 at Spencer house as patron of the London City ballet.Seen above, with her hair clipped quite short. Her accessories were a bracelet and dangly earrings with large pearl drops.

In 1986 Diana wore it to a banquet in Portugal. $36,800.

I received more information about this gown from its current owner.. It was won over the phone by Mr Frans Billen of Belgium. He bought it because he met Diana wearing this dress. It now resides in Belgium on a life size Diana mannekin.
