Walk On Water

The streets are flooded with the tears of dead religions
And the ark no longer helps us up to breath
The faith is gone and the prophets are ancient
Jesus and Buddha and Mohammed and Shamans
All left to dust to dust, ash to ash
Point fingers at who we think is the Devil
Blame the mighty, weaken the strong
All for the honor of a search long gone
A belief in the supposed sons and daughters of God
Well, I sure don't know
If anyone would dare to comeback
Or feel the need to heal a stubborn wound
And I don't trust us to make room
For the heart of another teacher
The oblivious omnipotent
The chosen one from one after another
In jest we preach we are Jesus or
Whoever may be
Yet take a look at the street
The small man huddled in a dark corner
With a watchful, wistful gaze in his eye
A deep water dock in low tide
Take a look at the street
We don't know who could walk on water
Turn water to wine
Eight twisted arms, octopus of octopi
Law from law, law from law
Light from light
Trust God from true God
Reaching out to a world beyond
And a thing to come
Where life is purple with wound of all love
The bruise of adhesive human burdens
Holding together with the strength of all convictions
Drink with Jimi, jam with Morrison
Play with Ty Cobb and do what you will
Past from past on a dusty road to
The future
Erased Pain from pain, life from life
Truth from truth in jest
But look at the streets
Littered with mad man poets
And street philosophers
Prophets of doom and salvation are here
Everywhere, somewhere, nowhere
Look at the streets
We don't know who can walk on water
Look at the station
We don't know who can turn water to wine
Look at the world
Look at yourself
