BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA -- Tamara Kaye Sellman, editor of Margin: Exploring Modern Magical Realism, has announced her staff's nominations for this year's prestigious Pushcart Prize:

THE MAPMAKER by Brandy Bauer of Washington, DC

THE LINGERING DEATH OF EAMON PATTERSON by Peter Damian Bellis of St. Paul, MN

LATE by Atar Hadari of London, UK

MY WORLD IS NOT OF THIS KINGDOM, an excerpt from the novel, O Meu Mundo não É deste Reino. English translation by Gregory Rabassa of New York, NY and original text in Portuguese by João de Melo of Lisbon, Portugal

SPENT EARTH by Catherine Scherer of Chicago, IL

THE REMAINS OF PRINCESS KAIULANI'S GARDEN by Katherine Vaz of The Azores

"We are proud of our first-year lineup," says Sellman. "The global exposure we can give these authors is gratifying, but an award like the Pushcart for any of our contributors would really take the cake."

The Pushcart is one of the largest literary awards available, distinguishing short stories, poems and essays published by America's small presses and magazines. Publishers Weekly named the Pushcart among the "most influential in the development of the American book business over the past century and a quarter."
