State Route 3 begins at jct US 101 in the south end of Shelton and heads north-northeasterly via Allyn, Belfair, Gorst, Bremerton, Siverdale, and Poulsbo, ending at jct SR 104 at the east end of the Hood Canal Floating Bridge. SR 3 is 59.31 miles long.
Before 1964, SR 3 from Shelton to the south side of Belfair was part of SSH 14A and from the Belfair area to the east approach to the Hood Canal Floating Bridge a part of PSH 21.
