selection, the Davey O’Brien Award, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp
Player of the Year award, Washington, D.C. Touchdown Club
College Athlete of the Year award and Florida Amateur Athlete of
the Year award. Led the NCAA in passer rating his senior year,
with a 165.8 mark, leading the Hurricanes to an 11-0 record.
In his 2 years as
a starter, Miami went 21-1 in the regular season, amassing
414-628-5,795-47 TD-24 INT. As a junior finished 5th in the

2-time Pro Bowl selection who enters the team’s 2001 training camp as
the Jets’ starting signal/caller…is entering his 4th season with the
Jets, having also previously played for TB (1987-92), CLE (1993-95), BAL
(1996-97) and with the Jets since 1998. Has played in 173 regular season
NFL games (162 starts) and has piled up numbers that rank him with the
most prolific passers in NFL history. His 7,073 yards passing with the
Jets are the 4th most in club annals…enters 2001 season 10th on the NFL
all-time passing yardage list (36,307 yards), 13th in pass completions
(2,897) and 17th in TD passes (226)…owns the 9th-best TD passes per game
rating in NFL history (1.31)…also has Jets’ team records for TD passes
in a season (29), most pass attempts in a single game (69) and most pass
completions in a game (42—tied with Richard Todd). Signed with the Jets
as a FA in June of 1998...2000: (Jets) started all 16 games after making
the successful comeback from a torn Achilles…finished the season with
328 of 590 for 3,732 yards, 55.6 pct., 21 TD and 25 INT for a passer
rating of 69.0…led the NFL in attempts, was 2nd in the AFC and 4th in
the NFL in completions, 3rd in the conference in yards gained and 6th in
the NFL. In final game of the season at BAL he attempted an astounding
69 passes, completing 36 of them for 481 yards, 2 TD and 3 INT in the
team’s 34-20 loss to the Ravens. Moved into 10th place, ahead of Jim
Kelly, in the NFL’s all-time passing yardage list. Moved past Boomer
Esiason and into 4th place on the team’s all-time passing yardage list.
Led the Jets to their 4th comeback win of the season and their 3rd in
the last 2 minutes with 4th quarter stats of 18-25-236 and 4 TD with 0
INT, a perfect passer rating of 158.3…hit 4 different receivers for TD
passes, including Chrebet (2), Coles (1st career TD), Jumbo Elliott (1st
career TD) and TE Jermaine Wiggins (1st career TD)…was 59-36-378-5 TD-3
INT on the night JTD passes set a MNF record. Moved into 15th place on
the NFL’s all-time passing yardage list and ahead of former Giants QB
Phil Simms…in game 2 vs. NE on MNF he directed the Jets to a thrilling
comeback 21-19 win over the Pats…brought the Jets back from a 19-7
deficit with 6:25 left in the game to 19-14 on a 2-yard pass to Chrebet
and then hooked up again with Chrebet with 1:55 left in the game on a
28-yard scoring strike. Finished the day with 44-23-261-1 TD-1 INT…his
8th completion of the day moved him past Simms and into 18th place on
the NFL’s all-time completion list…his 35th attempt moved him past Simms
on the all-time passing attempts chart…hit on a long pass of 61 yards to
WR Dedric Ward that set up a game winning toss to Curtis Martin with
3:30 left in the 4th quarter.
