Madison County
I am from beautiful
Madison County, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Many
times, all you have to say is "Madco" and everyone young from the county knows
what you are talking about. There are many places in Madison that offer
very distinct opportunities to experience a very laid back day or weekend.
Graves Mountain Lodge is
located in the northern part of the county in the mountains. They
have motel rooms and numerous cabins that can be rented. They have
very good food, but their major attractions are their annual bluegrass
festival and fall festival. Click on the picture to travel to the
official Graves Mountain website. |

The town of Madison is
home to many historic buildings, including the courthouse. The
building holds the courtrooms and the clerks office. It stands in
the middle of town across from the old county office building. |

Madison County was home to
two major battles during the Civil War. They are included on the
Virginia Civil War Trails program. They occurred at opposite ends
of the county. There are also numerous markers throughout the
county describing where General Stonewall Jackson camped with his troops
on his way to the Shenandoah Valley. The county is steeped in
unwritten history passed down from generation to generation. |

This is Hebron Lutheran
Church, located in the Hebron Valley in Madison County. It is the
oldest Lutheran church in continuous use in the United States.
That is where I go to church. It also has a pipe organ in it that
dates back to when the current church was built. |

Madison County High School
is the only high school in the county. It has 600 hundred
students. The football team won a state championship in 1999 after
being the state runner-up the year before. This is where I work
during the summer. Click on the picture to follow a link to their
homepage. |
